In another shocking case from Karnataka, Ramanagara Rural Police have arrested a 36-year-old woman and her alleged lover for the murder of a 75-year-old woman over a loan repayment dispute. Police say the accused strangled the elderly woman, stole her gold ornaments, and later dumped her body near railway tracks to hide evidence.
Susheelamma (75), a resident of Sangabasavanadoddi village in Ramanagara taluk, was found dead.
The accused, Girija (36), is also from the same village, according to police, while her alleged lover, Mahesh (42), is accused of helping dispose of the victim's body after the murder.
A loan dispute could have been the cause of murder.
Police said Susheelamma had earlier lent Girija ₹20,000. Girija paid a monthly interest of ₹600.
Investigators said the dispute erupted after Girija failed to pay the interest for the month of June.
On June 15, Susheelamma visited Girija's home at about 2 pm to demand the interest payment. Police allege that an argument erupted between the two women, and Girija allegedly strangled the elderly woman to death.
The allegations are based on the police investigation, and the case will be decided by the court.
There were also reports that a body was dumped on railway tracks.
After the alleged murder, police claimed Girija contacted Mahesh, who arrived at the house to help her.
The duo placed Susheelamma’s body in a bag before taking it at night and leaving it near the railway tracks in a bid to conceal the crime.
Police believe the accused was attempting to make the death look accidental or prevent the identification of the victim, said the police.
Family Launches Search
When Susheelamma did not return home, her husband Madaiah and their sons began the search for her. Relatives and residents also joined the search.
When they were unable to trace her, the victim's son, Mahadevaiah, filed a missing person complaint at the Ramanagara Women's Police Station.
The police said Girija tried to divert suspicion by joining villagers in searching for the missing woman.
Body Found Five Days Later
Within five days after Susheelamma went missing, residents found a decomposed body near the railway tracks and alerted the police.
The remains were later identified by the victim’s family.
The family members noticed that Susheelamma’s gold mangalsutra (tali chain) and other ornaments were missing during the identification process, so they suspected foul play.
The police initially registered the case as an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) while waiting for further evidence.

Investigation Revealed Alleged Murder
As evidence was gathered and witnesses were interviewed, investigators concluded that the crime was not an accident or a natural death.
The investigation then led to the arrest of Girija and Mahesh.
Police recovered 39 grams of gold ornaments, which were worth around ₹5.45 lakh, from the accused, they said.
The suspects were brought to court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police Continue Probe
The investigators continue to investigate the chronology, collect forensic evidence, and record witness statements that will strengthen the prosecution’s case.
Authorities are also assessing whether other motives for the alleged crime were likely to exist; if anyone else may have known about the crime.
All of those involved have been asked by police to stop speculation.
Conclusion
The Ramanagara murder case has rocked the local community; investigators claim that a dispute over a small loan turned into the murder of a 75-year-old woman. Police say the accused tried to cover up the crime by disposing of the body and stealing the victim's jewellery.
