The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has taken a stern stance against the recent viral video controversy involving senior IPS officer and DGP Ramachandra Rao. Speaking to the media in Kalaburagi, KPCC spokesperson Ayesha Farzana delivered a blistering critique of the officer’s alleged conduct, describing the incident as a "heinous act" that has brought immense embarrassment to the police department, the state government, and society at large.
The controversy erupted after videos purportedly showing the high-ranking officer in a compromising position within his official chamber went viral on social media. While the officer has claimed the videos are "fabricated," the state government has already moved to place him under suspension pending a high-level inquiry.
"No Mercy for Exploitation"
Expressing her outrage, Ayesha Farzana emphasized that exploitation of women by those in administrative power is an unpardonable offense. She praised Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara for his swift decision to suspend the officer, signaling that the current administration will not shield anyone, regardless of their seniority.
"What Ramachandra Rao has done is shameful. There is no exemption for such a mistake. Men in power must think with a 'mother’s heart' and work toward the empowerment of women, not their exploitation," Farzana stated.
She further demanded that if the allegations are proven true, the officer should face the same severity of punishment as any common citizen. "The law is equal for all. Being a senior officer does not give one a license to turn an official office into a site for such activities," she added.
Defending the Home Ministry’s Track Record
Responding to opposition claims that the state's law and order machinery has failed, Farzana staunchly defended Home Minister G. Parameshwara. She pointed to the relative peace in the historically sensitive coastal regions of Karnataka as evidence of the Minister’s effective working style.
"The Home Minister has not failed. Look at the coastal belt; it is peaceful now. Is that not a result of his governance?" she questioned, asserting that the government is proactive in dealing with internal misconduct rather than hiding it.
The Shidlaghatta Threat Case
Farzana also touched upon the recent controversy in Shidlaghatta, where a government official was allegedly threatened by a political worker. She clarified that the Congress party does not stand by bullies or those who obstruct public servants.
"No one has supported the individual who threatened the government official in Shidlaghatta. Everyone has condemned that act of oppression. Our government stands with the officials who perform their duties honestly," she clarified, highlighting that the party values institutional integrity over political patronage.
Current Investigation Status
As of January 20, 2026, a detailed forensic investigation into the viral videos of DGP Ramachandra Rao is underway. The police department is looking into the authenticity of the clips and checking if there were any elements of honey-trapping or blackmail involved. However, the KPCC’s vocal stance makes it clear that the political wind is blowing toward a "zero-tolerance" policy for administrative misconduct.
