Shocking Recklessness: Mother Lowers Son From Balcony Using Saree to Fetch Fallen Laundry

In a stunning horror show of inattention that captivated social media worldwide, a mother strung out from a grandstand in a high rise apartment complex with only her young son dangling from an old balcony to grab something of a clothing piece which had fallen off. The incident, taking place at a residential society in the National Capital Region (NCR), depicts the mother using improvised rope made of sarees to pull the child from its fourth floor back down to its third-story balcony, all because a saree had slipped down and landed during dryness.

A Deadly Stunt for a Piece of Fabric

It depicted in viral video, shot by a concerned neighbor at the neighboring building in the same building, a scene that can seem hard to believe when viewed in the wrong way by most. It is visible in the video that the young boy is bound around his waist with a long saree. His mother, along with a second family member, pulls him gradually over the bottom of their fourth-floor balcony's railing.

There is no safety harness or professional equipment, a child is suspended in mid-air when he is set on the ledge of the locked apartment on the third floor. After the boy lands on his hands successfully and falls, he is seen picking up the fallen saree. The mother pulls the child back up to the fourth floor from below using the same saree-rope, instead of finding a safer way to bring him back. Because of its sheer height, and due to the "rope" having been designed to be highly flimsy, a single slip or tear in fabric could have a lethal fall.

Outrage and Legal Concerns About Child Safety

This video ignited huge debate over parent responsibility and child safety in high-rise living. Society residents expressed their horror, noting that the apartment on the third floor was probably locked so the mother had taken this extreme and dangerous shortcut instead of calling the neighbors and society’s maintenance workers. "It is chilling to watch.

A saree is far from a climbing rope, and a child’s life isn’t worth having a piece of clothing,” said a security consultant visiting the area. “The winds at that height can be extreme and it could have collapsed easily under all the pressure on the fabric." Local police have apparently been aware of the video which is being shared and the family has been investigated in order to give a stern warning or possibly court a case of child endangerment.

The Dangers of High-Rise Negligence

It’s certainly not the first time such an incident has happened in the growing cityscape of India. Similar videos have appeared in the past from places like Faridabad and Thane, where parents used bedsheets or sarees to fetch toys or clothes. Those who have moved into high-rise apartments say they feel urgent about the need for something called “high-rise etiquette” and awareness of safety, they said.

Members of the RWA (Resident Welfare Association) have expressed the call for them to perform safety drills and refuse to perform such dangerous stunts. The community’s message is emphatic: no material possession is worth jeopardizing a child’s life. One day, this incident could result in the regret that lasts a lifetime.
