The brazen theft, carried out inside one of the state’s most secure premises, has led to an arrest of a D-Group worker who was employed by the minister’s office. It has rocked political lives and ignited debate about how security measures at the iconic building, which is home to the legislative chambers and multiple ministerial offices, were implemented.

Details of the Theft  

Police sources said that theft was detected on [Insert Date] when staff members witnessed inconsistencies in the minister's office. A later check concluded that they found gold jewelry and a large sum of cash missing. The true value of the stolen items has not been revealed to the public, but preliminary estimates indicate that it amounts to lakhs of rupees.

Investigators rapidly turned their attention to people who had access to the minister’s office. After a rapid investigation, a D-Group worker, with his identity concealed for later investigation, was arrested. “We have arrested one person behind the theft,” a senior official from the police said. “The investigation is continuing to recover the items and see if there were any accomplices.”  

Under Scrutiny for Security Lapses  

The Vidhana Soudha is typically under stringent surveillance, with multiple layers of security personnel, CCTV cameras, and access controls. The possibility of such a theft in a minister’s own office has sparked general concern and pleas for a full look at the security of the building. 

The perception of the security lapse was criticized by opposition parties almost immediately and they also demanded from the government that the government must provide them with answers as to how a theft of this size could take place on the premises that it has. Minister Byrathi Suresh's office said it is fully cooperating with the police investigation.

Now under questioning, the arrested employee is to be investigated, and authorities are pursuing the details of the theft, including the theft motive, how it was handled, and why the culprit was able to bypass security protocols, authorities said.
