In a shocking incident that has sent waves of outrage across Chhattisgarh, a six-year-old girl was abducted and sexually assaulted in a village in Kanker district. The crime took place on the night of March 6, 2026, when the child was sleeping inside her home alongside her parents.
The Incident
According to police reports, two young men identified as Amit Jain (20) and Rohan Jain (19) allegedly entered the house under the influence of alcohol. Initially suspected of attempting theft, the duo instead abducted the minor girl. They took her to a secluded area near a pond in the same village, where the assault occurred.
The child’s parents realized she was missing around 12:30 a.m. and began searching the house and nearby areas. Believing she might have wandered outside, they alerted the village Kotwar (watchman) when they could not find her. The Kotwar immediately informed the police, who, along with villagers, launched a search operation in the darkness.
Hours later, the girl was discovered in an unconscious state in a nearby field close to the pond. She was rushed to the Kanker Medical College, where doctors confirmed through medical examination that she had been subjected to sexual assault.
Police Action
Following the investigation, both accused Amit Jain and Rohan Jain were taken into custody. During interrogation, the two confessed to the crime, according to police officials. Additional Superintendent of Police Yogesh Sahu confirmed that multiple charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act have been registered against them.
