Tamil Nadu Government Formation 2026: CPI, CPI(M), VCK Extend Support to TVK, Say Sources

Tamil Nadu’s political landscape has become significantly transformed into a hot seat as Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) provide support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) amidst a state government formation process.

It is this support that has helped to significantly solidify the political status of actor-turned-politician Vijay (better known as Thalapathy Vijay), whose party has quickly gained visibility as a major player in Tamil Nadu politics.

It was reported that negotiations between TVK leaders and Left and VCK representatives have escalated since the election results concluded, with the result of a fractured mandate and enhanced doubts as to who might form the next government.

Although all parties' formal declarations are awaited, insiders say that ideological talks and anti-BJP positioning were a key factor driving the two sides closer together during the negotiations. The development comes at a moment when several political camps are vying for the numbers they need to establish a government.

Support for CPI, CPI(M), as well as VCK, could be key to support TVK's claim to the field in the changing political setting. The political support of the Left parties and VCK is also symbolic because they remain powerful among workers, minorities, and Dalit people in various divisions in Tamil Nadu, as well as among progressive voters, say the political eye.

The VCK, led by Thol. Thirumavalavan has long been an important player in alliance politics in the state. In the same way, the CPI and CPI(M) are ideologically alive and have a grassroots organisation of force despite limited electoral strength. The sources believe there are already conversations on shared considerations of governance, secular politics, social justice and administrative stability.

But there has yet been no written confirmation of power-sharing agreements or cabinet membership. Fast-changing political developments ignited an extreme response from Tamil Nadu residents. On social media, TVK supporters saluted the reports as a “historic political shift” and a major milestone for Vijay’s political journey.

After years of speculation over his political aspirations, Vijay launched active politics in the name of TVK. The fact that he attracted young people to the cinema also brought political energy, which helped the TVK become one of the most monitored parties in the area. Political analysts have said that Tamil Nadu politics looks set to reach a new stage, when new regional forces will threaten traditional Dravidian influence.

The same holds for rival political alliances that they are discussing (though not yet openly) internally to address constantly shifting equations. Senior authorities from major parties are said to be conducting back-to-back meetings as there is uncertainty about the ultimate government formation.

While some reports excited public interest, experts said that coalitional political negotiations may shift quickly, especially once formal letters of backing are received, and the Governor officially invites a party or alliance to set up the government. And the Governor has faced public and political scrutiny over questions of constitutional procedure and when questions arise about invitations for government formation.

As Tamil Nadu awaits official clarity, all eyes are now on the next round of political meetings and announcements that will determine who, in the end, becomes the government of one of India’s most politically powerful states.
