Telangana: Man Rapes and Murders Mother-in-Law in Nagarkurnool; Accused in Custody

The tranquil village life in Kalwakurthy mandal was shattered earlier this week when the body of a woman in her mid-60s was found in a pool of blood at her house. The accused, a laborer in his 40s who was labelled as an “Illarikam” (live-in) son-in-law, committed the crime at the time the victim was alone in the house, the police said. The victim’s daughter, the wife of the accused, was away visiting relatives at the time of the incident after a domestic dispute with her husband.

A Gruesome Act of Violence

Preliminary investigations suggested that the perpetrator was inebriated at the time of the crime, the man was likely drunk. Allegedly after raping his mother-in-law, the accused feared that his actions would be discovered. In a desperate but cold-blooded attempt to silence her, he supposedly beat her to death with a heavy stone. The victim died immediately from head injuries. The suspect ran from the scene of the crime, but was apprehended and promptly chased by police.

Police Action and Investigation

Kalwakurthy Circle Inspector (CI) Nagarjuna stated that a case for rape and murder was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint filed by the victim’s daughter. The corpse was dispatched for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and collect forensic evidence. “The accused is now in judicial custody, and we are stepping up the investigation so that the case is as strong as it can be brought to light in a prosecution,” a police official said.

Community Reaction

The crime's brutality has rocked Nagarkurnool, with nearby neighbors saying the victim was a loving and supportive mother who had taken her daughter and son-in-law in. And local residents have lined up to call for the capital punishment of the accused, highlighting what looks like a growing concern for alcohol-fueled carnage and collapse within families.
