Four days after a high-end supercar hurtled into pedestrians and vehicles on the crowded VIP Road, the Kanpur Police have arrested Shivam Mishra (35). The arrest comes after intense social media scrutiny and a dramatic investigation which led the police to reject a “proxy confession” from a family employee.
The Incident: Chaos of Sunday Afternoon
The car wreck happened approximately at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 8, 2026, by the Rev-3 Mall, Gwaltoli, near the upscale shopping centre. According to eyewitnesses:
- The Lamborghini Revuelto was apparently speeding when the driver lost control.
- The vehicle crashed into an e-rickshaw, a stationary Royal Enfield motorcycle, and several pedestrians.
- The impact caused a motorcycle rider to be flung several feet into the air before the supercar mounted a divider and came to a halt.
- At least six people were hurt, and Mohd Taufeeq, an 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver, was among them.
A "Driver-Swap" and "Seizure" defense was introduced.
Right after the accident, a high drama sequence played out. Viral videos shared on social media appear to show private security bouncers pulling Shivam Mishra from the driver's seat and driving him off in an accompanying SUV.
A man named Mohan appeared before law enforcement Wednesday, saying it was he who was driving. The legal team of the family claimed:
- Shivam was merely a passenger.
- Shivam has epilepsy and had a sudden seizure during the ride, falling onto the driver and causing the vehicle to veer off course.
Police Investigation & Arrest
Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal dismissed these claims, stating that technical surveillance, GPS data, and CCTV footage clearly place Shivam Mishra behind the wheel.
"Our investigation satisfies us that the driver was Shivam. CCTV footage and bystander videos confirm that he was pulled from the driver's seat," the Commissioner stated.
Shivam was arrested from a local hospital on Thursday and was produced before a Kanpur court, which sent him to police remand. The police are also looking at how Shivam obtained a driving license if he suffers from a chronic medical condition such as epilepsy.
Fallout: SHO Suspended
The case already triggered some internal disciplinary actions within the UP Police. The Station House Officer (SHO) for the Gwaltoli police station was relieved from active duty after being accused of negligence and “procedural lapses” in the initial hours of the probe, including allowing the suspect to leave the scene.
