As part of a major initiative to improve science communication and raise public awareness, Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) has launched 88.8 FM Science Radio, a community radio station which will be aimed at connecting with people living in remote and rural areas of the state.
The aim is to make scientific knowledge available to the public by broadcasting educational and informative content in a simple and engaging way.
The new FM station will play an important role in raising consciousness of science, technology, innovation, environmental conservation, health, agriculture, and disaster preparedness. With radio a medium that is still prevalent in the hilly and rural areas UCOST is working to provide a bridge between information and science and encourage citizens to have scientific thought.
The launch of 88.8 FM Science Radio represents UCOST’s dedication to scientific temperament for students, farmers, teachers, and local communities as well.
The station will offer expert discussions, interviews with scientists, educational talks, interactive sessions, and practical information that is helpful to our daily life.
One of the station’s primary goals is to ensure that good scientific information is delivered to villages where internet access and digital access are limited. Radio is one of the best communication tools in mountainous regions such as Uttarakhand and a perfect platform for public outreach.
Besides being a science education center, the station would assist in sustainable farming techniques, climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, water resource management, and renewable energy. With 88.8 FM Science Radio taking its first step in Uttarakhand to make science accessible beyond classrooms and laboratories.
