A shocking incident has been reported from Golihole in Byndoor taluk of Udupi district in which a man attempted to kill his pregnant wife by giving her a poisonous injection and later committed suicide along with the woman he had been in love with.
The attempted murder and subsequent deaths are being investigated very gravely at the scene; the reason for attempted murder and the deaths are the reasons for this.
The deceased have been identified as Vitthal Naik, 35, and Bhavya, 33, residents of the Chartali area of Golihole. Their bodies were found hanging in an isolated place around the Sowparnika River. The bodies were found in a decomposed state, the Indian press reported. Police are now investigating the cause of the deaths and are investigating the reasons behind the deaths.
According to the information available, Vitthal Naik worked as an autorickshaw driver and Bhavya was a tailor. Police are investigating their relationship and the events that preceded the attempted poisoning of Vitthal’s wife.
Vitthal, about 20 days before the bodies were discovered, introduced Bhavya to his pregnant wife by claiming she was a nurse. She was subsequently given a poisonous injection. After the incident Vitthal is said to have left the area with Bhavya.
The pregnant woman got seriously ill after she was exposed to the poison. Local residents rushed her to a hospital in Manipal where she was taken care of. She was said to have been in a serious but not life-threatening condition and was now recovering.
The alleged poisoning had already been noticed by the police. A case was registered at the Byndoor Police Station on September 11 as a result of the incident. Investigation was ongoing into the alleged attempt on the woman’s life, investigators said.
The case took another unexpected turn when Vitthal and Bhavya were later found dead in an isolated spot near the Sowparnika River. Their bodies were allegedly found in a decomposed condition after they died by hanging. Police are investigating whether the two deaths are linked to the previous poisoning case.
One of the possibilities is that Vitthal and Bhavya might have taken the extreme step after learning that his wife had survived the alleged poisoning attempt. But this is a matter for the police investigation, and the exact reasons for their deaths have not yet been determined.
The incident has attracted attention because of the sequence of events – alleged poisoning, hospitalisation and recovery of the pregnant woman, then deaths of Vitthal and Bhavya. The evidence of the earlier incident as well as the survivor and witnesses’ accounts as well as the circumstances at the site where the bodies were found will be examined, police said.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community in Byndoor, and residents are worried about the disturbing sequence of events. The investigation will reveal more if it turns out that the pregnant woman was targeted and Vitthal Naik and Bhavya died.
