And in a clever deception, two thieves posing as customers stole a mobile phone in the hotel owner in Udupi who’s also filming the event on CCTV at the doorline.
The theft took place at Mahalakshmi Hotel in Kodankoor and the suspects showed up at the hotel pretending to be regular customers. At first, according to our source the duo ordered meals and chat with the hotel staff at the time.
As the owner attended to the suspects at cash counter, they carried out their plans. One of the thieves might have distracted the owner while billing and even kept going on his way through the billing and distracts him from taking the phone (the phone is on the cash counter) while the other is on the cash table.
Within seconds the couple had taken off without causing offense. The owner only could tell when his phone was turned on and he opened it and found out it was missing: that he knew that something was wrong.
The hotel owner examined the footage from the CCTV and realised foul play took place. The theft was clearly observed between the two men in a video.
The incident has once again demonstrated how criminals are using old methods such as posing as customers in dense commercial spaces to steal from their target market.
Police have been alerted and attempts to catch and locate the suspects are being made through the CCTV footage we have heard of,” said a local police officer. Business owners are suggested to be vigilant and take necessary precautions at all times especially during the peak of morning when distractions will be the highest.
This is just what must help the shopkeepers and the public be worried because distraction theft strikes in this city every day, and the incidents seem to be happening now more of the time.
