The passengers in the vehicle were frightened, and it was early in the day. The bus had supposedly sped on the expressway; however, the driver lost control of the vehicle. On the roadside, the bus overturned, and it trapped several passengers inside, apparently surviving the impact.

Witnesses claimed the whole scene was a heavy blow, and passengers were yelling for their rescue as residents made their way to the scene of the accident. Soon after they learned of the crash, police, highway patrol teams and an emergency rescue crew arrived to try to rescue them.

The authorities carried people trapped in the overturned bus using cranes and cutting tools. The injured were lifted by ambulance, taken to hospitals nearby and given early medical care. Six passengers died in the crash, and officials said at least some are now critically ill. Doctors at nearby hospitals will closely observe the injured victims.

Family members are also kept updated, and the names of other deceased passengers are not released. An investigation that aimed to identify the precise cause of the crash, officers in senior positions said, arrived at the crash site. The initial reports indicate overspeeding, and driver fatigue or neglect may have contributed to the crash.

Officials said the exact cause would be determined in the course of a possible investigation and study of the vehicle in the future. Traffic jammed some sections along parts of the Lucknow-Agra Expressway for several hours after the collision. As part of the rescue and clearing operations, traffic officers diverted vehicles and diverted them to alternate routes.

The affected bus was removed from the road to restore normal traffic. And this episode had once again cast serious blemishes on public safety on and through the country’s roads. Again and again, experts told me and the general public that if we are to prevent tragedies such as these from happening, we must closely monitor the speed of vehicles we drive, ensure our drivers take breaks at normal intervals to rest, and use laws to better effect.

The authorities said they would provide the required support for accident victims, all their families and any deceased passengers and their families.
