The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has formally published the results for the Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026. Now, applicants who appeared for the objective-type screening examination, completed on February 8, 2026 can view the merit list on the commission's official website.
The result itself represents an important milestone for engineering candidates and those qualifying will now be eligible for the ESE Mains Examination that is due to be held on 21 June 2026.
How You can Check UPSC ESE Prelims 2026 Result
The analysis of the results is reported in two forms, a roll-number-wise list and a name-wise list. Repeat these methods to access your result:
- Visit the UPSC website at upsc.gov.in.
- Explore a section like “What's New" on the homepage.
- Click on “Written Result: Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026.” And a PDF file with roll numbers and names of the eligible candidates will open.
- Use the “Ctrl+F” button to find either your Name or Roll Number.
- Save the PDF for future reference.
Key Highlights of the Result
- Vacancies: About 474 vacancies will be available in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Provisional status: Candidature of these eligible candidates is provisional only.
- Main Examination Date: The Engineering Services (Main) Exam, 2026, is scheduled for Sunday, 21 June 2026.
- Scorecards and Cut-offs: UPSC will only generate the separate scores and category-wise cut-off marks once the entire process (including the Personality Test) is completed with the final results announced.
What comes next for Qualified Candidates?
Shortlisted candidates have to choose one of the Conventional (Descriptive) papers at the Mains stage. The Mains exam unlike the Prelims one exam consists of 2 discipline specific papers, each with 300 marks each. The e-Admit Cards for the Mains exam will be made available on the UPSC website approximately 1 week in advance of the examination.
