Actor-politician Vijay’s home was splashed with celebrations as his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), inched toward historic victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections.
Videos of Vijay's family members and close contacts celebrating their beloved party’s win went viral on several social media platforms, and quickly spread awareness of the election results. Counting trends were in fact still in favour of TVK in many constituencies throughout Tamil Nadu, and scenes of cheer and jubilation spread widely outside Vijay’s Chennai house.
Supporters went on and shouted slogans urging the actor-turned-politician on, cheered and danced to party flags and drumming. They have said that viral posts and other video clips of a handful of Vijay’s family smiling, speaking to supporters and enjoying the moment as TVK set record-breaking records in the counting trends.
Fans online pointed out this was touching and historic, starting what many have dubbed a “new political era” in Tamil Nadu. TVK’s surprising performance is perhaps one of the most shocking developments in the state’s political history. TVK, a lesser-known yet highly promising new political party, successfully toppled the decades-long dominion of the main DMK and AIADMK parties.
Political observers attribute Vijay’s rise to its youthfulness and to voters who have voted in narrow ways before. Vijay repeated several themes throughout the whole campaign with reference to anti-corruption, governance reform, employment, politics and political change, to name a few.
His rallies attracted huge crowds across the state, and supporters viewed the campaign as a political movement and an emotional, fan-driven phenomenon, buoyed by large numbers. Following the outcome of the election and its victory, which favoured TVK, the festive celebrations went far beyond Chennai and to a range of districts where party workers gathered outside local offices and in public squares.

Firecrackers were lit, sweets were served, and widespread posters celebrating Vijay were held up in public squares as happy fans cheered triumphal enthusiasm. Social media saw tons of congratulatory posts, messages from people cheering for fans, actors and celebrities, as well as political commentators expressed their expressions of gratitude for the feats of TVK and others to celebrate it are full of congratulations through huge posters of Vijay being put up everywhere in public halls, where people shouted out with great fervour and exuberance.
Videos showing celebrations by his family members on TVK's newsfeed were shared widely. They saw footage of Vijay's family in public squares: among the biggest fan-related tweets linked with Vijay were connected to them and made up over the course of the day, and then Twitter, so much so, that they became popular among the most shared.
Vijay’s move from a cinema superstar to a major political candidate has struck something of a chord with the general electorate, political commentators said. The elevation is widely admired, and it draws a parallel with M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa, who had switched from cinema superstar to prosperous politician after a great rebirth.
That final result was only recently announced officially, but many people watching TVK seemed pretty sure that Vijay could win a sizeable election shortly. The security at Vijay’s home and at the high-profile TVK headquarters was boosted, as the crowds revelled too. In the meantime, rival party officials advocated patience and reassured supporters that counting was pending in many constituencies.
But the mood and momentum were unmistakable: Vijay had become a major political player in Tamil Nadu. The day meant more to millions of Vijay fans than an election result. This was the turning point that would bring about their favourite star becoming a potential Chief Minister, with one of his significant new players coming onto the Tamil Nadu stage.
