As a biting cold wave grips North Karnataka, the District Collector (DC) of Vijayapura has officially ordered a change in school timings to safeguard students' health. With temperatures plummeting to record lows, the district administration has moved the school start time to 10:00 AM for the next 10 days.
Protection Against the "Chilling" Reality
For the past week, residents of Vijayapura and surrounding North Karnataka districts have been battling an intense cold spell. While adults find it difficult to leave their beds in the early hours, school-going children have been the most affected. Parents expressed deep concern as children were forced to commute in freezing temperatures, often leading to cases of fever, cough, and cold.
In response to these health risks, Deputy Commissioner K. Anand issued a mandatory directive to ensure that no child is exposed to the extreme morning chill.
Key Details of the New Schedule
The order is comprehensive and strictly enforced across the district:
- Effective Date: From December 23, 2025, for a duration of 10 days.
- New Opening Time: Schools will now start at 10:00 AM.
- Applicability: The order applies to students from Class 1 to Class 10.
- Institution Type: This is mandatory for all Government, Aided, and Private schools.
Warning for Schools: DC K. Anand has warned that any school—especially private institutions—found violating this order or sticking to the old timings will face strict legal action.
Weather Forecast: More Chills Ahead
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cold wave in Vijayapura is expected to intensify over the coming week. Temperatures in the region have already touched 7°C, and the "Orange Alert" remains in place for several North Karnataka districts.
