One survivor who narrowly survived a serious accident has considered life, gratitude, and the uncertainty of fate.
What was at first a frightening and potentially life-threatening event was, for the survivor, a powerful reminder that life can change in a few seconds. Looking back, he said the experience made him realise how fragile life really is.
“One second could have cost me my whole life,” he said.
The survivor said he was extremely grateful that he escaped without serious harm. He also expressed gratitude to his family, the people who were at the scene, and everyone who responded during the difficult moment.
In his opinion, for him it was more than a car accident. It was a second chance at life.
One moment has changed his perspective
People don’t really think about how quickly things can change. The routine journey, the routine conversation, and the routine plans can switch in the space of a few hours.
The victim said that the experience made him appreciate life in a way he hadn’t before.
“And some moments in particular just remind you how very fragile life really is,” he said.
He thought of life with much more gratitude and humility. Things that are commonly taken for granted—family, health, safety and another chance to wake up the next morning—suddenly seemed to be much more valuable.
Remembering the Bhagavad Gita
When thinking about what happened, the survivor quoted a well-known teaching from the Bhagavad Gita:
“Karm karo, fal ki chinta mat karo.”
The message, well known to be one of encouragement to live by one’s actions and not to be affected by one’s results, was deeply resonating in his mind after the accident.
He said he felt that the blessings and good acts of his parents and his own actions had somehow helped protect him during the incident.
Whether through faith, coincidence, or simply the randomness of life, he was convinced he was in the right direction to do good and be grateful.
A second chance was also about helping others.
The incident didn’t end with his own escape
The response to the situation was quick, the survivor said, and he saved the couple trapped in a car.
The couple had injuries that they suffered but were later said to be doing well.
For the survivor, being able to help others in a critical moment added to the experience.
He could have simply focused on his own safety after narrowly escaping danger. Instead, the situation became an opportunity to assist people who needed immediate help.
That moment confirmed his belief that sometimes it is not only about the survival of someone but that a second chance is to help someone else.
Life Can Change In Seconds
The experience has left the survivor with a simple but powerful message: never take life for granted.
People simply put gratitude, kindness and good intentions aside in the name of the larger good and assume there will always be more time.
But unexpected events can change everything in an instant.
The survivor said the accident showed him that there is no guarantee about what the next second might bring. That’s changed the way he now sees his everyday life.
He is not so much concerned with what he has and what he will have now as he is about himself and how he now wants to care for people in the present and future.

Gratitude After A Narrow Escape
Glowing gratitude has become one of the strongest themes of his reflection.
He thanked his family for their support and acknowledged the people who were around during the incident. He also expressed gratitude for being given what he described as a second chance.
In many cases for accident survivors, the experience has changed their priorities. Things that might have felt important are now insignificant; relationships, health, and just living are now more and more important.
This is a good example that gratitude doesn’t have to be extraordinary. It can simply start with appreciating another ordinary day.
A Message To Others
The survivor's message after the incident was simple:
“Be grateful. Be kind. Do good.”
He thinks that the things we do in life can lead to the things that come back to us in unexpected ways.
“Because you never know when your karma is going to come back to save you,” he said.
His words reflect a broader philosophy of living with kindness and responsibility. No one can predict what the future will hold, but people can decide how to treat others and how to contribute to the world around them.
What Second Chance Means
Different people have different concepts about a second chance.
Some may have been able to overcome an illness of some sort. For others, it could mean the death of someone, a recovery from an accident, rebuilding a relationship, finding a new career, or a decision to live differently.
For this survivor, it is to appreciate life more deeply and to recognise that every moment has value.
The accident may have lasted only seconds, but its impact would last a lifetime.
His life is unpredictable, he said; circumstances can change without warning and kindness can really matter when it’s needed most.
And most importantly, the experience has made him look at family, faith, good deeds, and the people who come forward when they are in trouble more often.
His story is a simple lesson: life is precious, time is uncertain, and every day can be an opportunity to do something good.
If life gives you a second chance, perhaps the best response is not to ask why you were spared, but to ask what you can do with the opportunity you have been given.
