V. D. Satheesan is the Indian National Congress's official Chief Minister of Kerala. Satheesan, one of the leading members of the Congress and a powerful figure, best known for his harsh opposition politics, fiery public speeches and organisational muscle within the UDF, has been a leader and contributor to the Indian National Congress.
The announcement comes after a significant political win for the Congress-led coalition in Kerala that ended years of vicious competition with the Left Democratic Front. The party’s leaders described Satheesan as a leader who would lead the state out of economic and administrative headwinds and strengthen the Congress base in southern India.
Who is VD Satheesan?
VD Satheesan - Vadassery Damodaran Satheesan is a long-term member of Kerala Congress. Satheesan, a product of Ernakulam district, had entered politics through student-led campaigning, a position he gained through the Congress party.
He has run in the Paravur Assembly constituency more than once and is one of the most eloquent and forceful state politicians in Kerala. Satheesan has become very vociferous in condemning the Left ruling government over the years, and there is plenty of writing out against corruption, political control and people's well-being in the Kerala Assembly.
Satheesan ascended to the statewide top levels after becoming the Leader of Opposition for the Kerala Legislative Assembly. His sermons, his personal attacks on political opponents, drew significant public interest and media coverage. Your message: Politics and leadership: No, the other way around.
Satheesan is known for his grassroots political style, it's been closely coupled with party workers and youth leaders of the region. Political observers often describe him as someone who mixes old-school Congress politics with a modern communications mindset.
Satheesan went on to regain Kerala (Kerala for short) party tenure within the Congress party and strengthened the UDF alliance ahead of elections. He also ramped up his public activism on inflation, unemployment, the environment and supposed corruption cases.
His leadership style was very active and aggressive; without question, particularly in legislative and election debates, his leadership style was very assertive and energetic; his mind was without doubt. His supporters consider him a man who, as a leader, could change the course of the Indian Congress in Kerala and enable him to govern.
Challenges Ahead. Satheesan himself, under his tenure as Chief Minister, is likely to face numerous challenges, including issues of economic recovery, unemployment, concerns about increasing debt burden, and infrastructure investment. And developing relationships among coalition members in the UDF alliance, it will be incumbent on the new government to handle those dynamics.
His first few months in office will probably determine the new direction of politics by Congress in Kerala (and beyond), as observers have calculated. The Congress leadership is betting that Satheesan’s administrative experience and political acumen could help provide governance and bolster the party’s own standing in the state.
