The accident struck near Shantapur Cross at Surpur taluk, where the car struck an oncoming private bus with a wide impact, authorities say. Early investigations of what the accident looked like suggested the accident was so savage that some occupants of the car died on the spot, while others died immediately after the crash.

Officials said nine people were killed in the crash. The loss is severe: four children, 2 women and 3 men. The deceased were identified as Krishna Nayak (52), Ananta Kala (45), Sharannappa (36), Nisarga (30), Siddharth (3), Advika (5), Shrinidhi (1.5), Shashikala (30) and Chandana (8).

Besides death, at least one of these children, named Virat, remains critical and is now being treated at a nearby hospital. Medical teams are observing the child’s condition while work is being done to ensure his ongoing suffering doesn't cause problems in the days ahead.

The initial residents were local, as we know them best, rushing to assist these victims before ambulances arrived. Police and rescue teams stood at the scene of the crash, then set about a rescue operation to remove bodies and carry people to hospitals. The wreck of the car demonstrated how much harm was done.

Early findings showed that speed and/or loss of control accounted for the crash, but have not revealed the cause. Police initiated a case, conducting a full-fledged investigation, confirming and evaluating the nature of the motor vehicles, investigating the bus driver, and speaking to witnesses.

Bidar–Srirangapatna State Highway encounters heavy traffic, and is one of the highways with the highest traffic movement, where some accidents have been recorded in past due to careless driving and bad road conditions on many stretches. Once more, the officials won't hesitate to tell motorists to be wary on highways, since high speeds also increase the risk for potential fatal collisions.

The community mourns the tragic deaths of families, primarily including young children. They should be driving the car under the speed limit, keeping the car up to specification, and generally acting responsibly. More details will be provided as the investigation goes on by officials. At the same time, condolences have flowed in for the victims’ family members, despite the district grieving over one of the deadliest road crashes in the district’s history.
