Aaryavir Sehwag Smashes 173 Off 143 Balls, Hits 19 Fours and 8 Sixes in Vinoo Mankad Trophy

Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir Sehwag displayed his impressive batting in Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite tournament and he scored 173 runs in 143 deliveries to help Delhi to a competitive total of 289/6 in 50 overs against Chandigarh. The young batsman showed his game-driving skills with 19 fours and 8 sixes, which was what he needed to do to break down the opposition’s bowling attack and put up a good score with the ball.

The 18-year-old who is leading Delhi in the tournament as captain of the team, took over at the top of the order and anchored the innings with several partnerships. This was especially important after Delhi’s poor performance in their previous match against Karnataka in which they conceded 418 runs and were dismissed for 220. Aaryavir had scored 32 in that match but could not convert his start into a big impact. Against Chandigarh he made good use of it and delivered an innings of his own.

Aaryavir Sehwag Leads Delhi’s Batting Effort

After opting to bat first, Delhi relied on their opening pair of Aaryavir and Arnav Bugga to put up a solid foundation. The duo scored 98 runs for the first wicket which gave Delhi a good start and allowed them to settle in early. Arnav contributed 47 before he was bowled by Rupesh Yadav.

Delhi moved up to 107/2 but Aaryavir continued to keep one end together. He was assisted by wicketkeeper-batter Abhiraj Singh (18 runs), and they put together 48 runs for the third wicket in partnership. Their contributions helped Delhi to progress despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

The innings was further complicated when Delhi reached 179/4. With the team needing a strong finish Aaryavir joined Shantanu Yadav, who made 27, to rebuild the innings. The pair added 89 runs for the fifth wicket and gave Delhi valuable runs in the last half of their 50 overs of the match.

Aaryavir was finally dismissed by Sreshth Duggal in the 46th over after scoring 173. His departure ended an outstanding individual effort, but the runs he had accumulated helped Delhi reach 289/6 by the end of their innings. For Chandigarh, Rupesh Yadav finished among the wicket-takers with two dismissals.

19 Fours and Eight Sixes Highlight Dominant Knock

Aaryavir’s innings was a combination of patience and aggression. For 143 deliveries he struck 19 boundaries and cleared the ropes eight times. His ability to find gaps, rotate the strike and punish loose deliveries allowed him to keep the scoreboard going while keeping pressure on Chandigarh’s bowlers.

The young batsman was especially aggressive against Parth Gupta and battled against him during his long stay at the crease. His innings was also crucial because Delhi got little support from the rest of the batting order in terms of big scores. Apart from Arnav Bugga's 47 and Shantanu Yadav's 27, no other Delhi batter made a similar contribution.

Aaryavir’s match-winning performance was an excellent reply after the loss against Karnataka. The captain also had the chance to show his leadership ability as the Delhi side depended on him to run the game and lead the team to a competitive total.

From India U19 Debut to Vinoo Mankad Trophy Captaincy

Aaryavir’s performance comes at an important time in his development as a cricketer. He was named captain of a 16-member Delhi side for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite tournament which started in Visakhapatnam on October 8. It followed his India Under-19 debut against Australia in Rajkot in September.

Aaryavir scored 109 runs in three innings during the Youth ODI series against Australia. He started the series with 28 runs from 26 balls in a rain-shortened match that India won by seven runs. The performances he had at youth level were important in developing his game.

His 173 is now another game on his recent list. While he gets many comparisons with his father, former India opener Virender Sehwag, because they share the same surname and attacking style of cricket, Aaryavir is already setting his own record through age-group cricket. His last innings showed that he can remain in the crease for a long time and score at a high rate.

What Aaryavir’s Big Innings Means for Delhi

Aaryavir’s innings has given Delhi a much-needed batting boost after the defeat against Karnataka. His contribution helped the team reach 289/6, with partnerships at the top and middle of the order providing the foundation for the total. In limited overs cricket, a reliable top-order batsman is required to help the team recover from a defeat like that.

As the Vinoo Mankad Trophy progresses, performances like this will be important for Aaryavir as captain and batter. His consistent performance, rather than one big innings, will determine how well he will lead Delhi through the competition. Nevertheless, his 143-ball 173 against Chandigarh was a great response with powerful stroke play, valuable partnerships and a commanding individual score.

The innings marks another step in his trajectory through India’s age-group cricket system for the young cricketer. With experience from the India U19 series and the duty of captaining Delhi, Aaryavir will aim to continue making contributions to his team and build on this performance.
