The UEFA Champions League had a dramatic night of football on October 13, 2026 with European heavyweights in a very different situation as two European giants had contrasting fortunes. Manchester United lost in the UEFA Champions League to Atlético Madrid 2-0, Bayern Munich drew with Viking 3-3 in a thrilling match and Barcelona beat Galatasaray 4-1.
Elsewhere, Arsenal won in a comfortable way against Lille and Club Brugge shocked Inter Milan in a 7-goal thriller. Here is a synopsis of Tuesday's Champions League action.
Manchester United in trouble after Atlético defeat.
Manchester United had a tough night against Atlético Madrid and lost 2-0. Atlético struck almost immediately with Pablo Barrios scoring in the first minute after a quick attack.
United tried to respond but were unsuccessful in converting their chances into goals. Atlético remained dangerous on the counterattack and made the visitors pay for their defensive weaknesses.
And the task was even harder for United when Leny Yoro received a red card in the second half. Ademola Lookman scored Atlético’s second goal, closing a valuable victory for the Spanish side.
The result raises fresh questions about United’s defensive organisation and their ability to compete with Europe’s best teams.
Bayern Munich Held in a Six-Goal Thriller
Bayern Munich were involved in one of the most entertaining matches of the night, drawing 3-3 on the Norwegian side Viking.
Viking stunned the visitors with a two-goal lead from early and first-half goals. Bayern responded after the break, with Harry Kane scoring twice to bring their team level.
Luis Díaz then put Bayern ahead, seemingly completing a remarkable comeback. But Michael Olise’s dismissal left the German champions vulnerable, and Herman Johan Haugen scored a late equaliser to give Viking a memorable point.
That was a frustrating setback for Bayern, who had fought back very professionally, but were not able to defend their advantage.
Barcelona Stage Comeback Against Galatasaray.
Barcelona had one of the strongest performances of the night and beat Galatasaray 4-1 away from home.
Galatasaray took the lead through Alexey Batrakov, putting Barcelona under pressure early on in the game. João Cancelo equalised before half-time to give the visitors a measure of confidence back into the match, and the visitors renewed their spirits.
And Barcelona then took control after the break. Fermín López and Anthony Gordon scored in quick succession, turning the match in the Spanish side’s favour. Karim Adeyemi then scored another goal to complete the 4-1 victory.
Lamine Yamal played a key creative role and got two assists that showed Barcelona’s attacking capability.
Arsenal cruise while Inter Suffer Shock Defeat
Arsenal defeated Lille 3-0 after a goalless first half. Jurrien Timber opened the scoring before Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka added further goals in a decisive seven-minute spell.
The biggest surprise, however, occurred in Milan where Club Brugge defeated Inter 4-3. Nicolo Tresoldi scored a hat-trick for Brugge and Lautaro Martínez scored twice for Inter. Romeo Vermant also scored for the visitors and a late Inter goal could not save them from defeat.
Villarreal beat Napoli 3-1, RB Leipzig defeated PSV Eindhoven 1-0. Sporting CP defeated Lens 2-0 and Sabah secured a 2-0 victory over Slavia Prague.
