India goes into the penultimate day of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow with hopes that its athletes will be able to win medals in boxing, athletics, para athletics, judo, track cycling and lawn bowls. It will be one of the key days for India to contend for medals in the final days of the Games, when the Games will end on Sunday.
The Indian delegation has had a successful run and had 23 medals on day one, including 5 gold, 12 silver and six bronze, ranking the country in the top half of the medals table. Now we need to turn all those medal opportunities into gold medals.
Boxing Takes Centre Stage
India's biggest medal hopes lie in boxing, where the country has scripted history by sending 10 boxers to the finals— their biggest-ever contingent in Commonwealth Games boxing finals. At the SEC Centre, Indian boxers have at least won silver medals at the Commonwealth Games and will now fight for gold.
Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain is among the key players as she aims to add another Commonwealth Games gold medal to India’s tally. The Indian boxers’ performance could boost the country’s overall medal count.
Athletics and Para Athletics
Athletics will provide opportunities for medals throughout the day. Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh will seek his second medal of the Games in the men's 5,000m final, while Priyanka Goswami and Ravina Gaikwad will compete in the women's 10,000m race walk final.
India will also be represented in para athletics, with the men's F55-57 shot put final and the men's T53/54 1500m final, where the contingent will aim to win more medals.
Judo, Lawn Bowls and Cycling
Indian judokas will compete in a variety of weight categories in which to continue the country's proud history of success after past success in the sport.
In lawn bowls, Indian players will continue their sectional matches in the men's pairs, women's singles and para bowls competitions. Track cyclists, too, will be in action to progress from their competitions.
A Crucial Day Before the Finale
With one day left to go after Saturday's action, August 1 might determine the country's final medal tally. A strong performance in boxing, athletics and judo would see the Indian team elevated and seal a strong Commonwealth Games performance in recent years.
