The interaction will take place around 4:30 pm at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi where PM will also address the gathering. Athletes who won medals, coaches, officials and representatives from India’s sporting organisations will be present at the programme to celebrate a historic performance that has brought pride to the nation. India had performed its best ever at the Asian Para Games by winning a record 114 medals at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 competition in Japan.

30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals were India’s medal tally (a big improvement over the country’s previous best of 108 medals at the 2023 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou China).

This shows how strong India’s para-sports ecosystem is now and the dedication of athletes who have overcome physical, social and competitive challenges to reach the international podium. As per reports about November 5 programme 97 Indian para-athletes contributed to the country’s impressive medal haul. Performances across multiple sporting disciplines helped India set a new benchmark in its Asian Para Games journey.

The 2026 Asian Para Games were held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from October 18 to October 24. The fifth edition of the competition brought thousands of athletes and officials together from 45 National Paralympic Committees across Asia. Athletes competed in 18 sports so it was important platform for para sport talent from all over the continent.

India's campaign was particularly good in para athletics where they won the most medals (65) 22 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze medals. Para badminton also performed well with 16 medals three gold, five silver and eight bronze medals.

India also won 11 medals in para swimming, seven in para table tennis, six in para archery and five in para shooting. Two medals each were won in para judo and para powerlifting. These results showed that India’s talent pool was not limited to a few events but rather ran across a wide range of disciplines.

The medal-winning performances also showed how coaching, training facilities, sports science, equipment and institutional support are important for para-athletes to compete at the highest level.

Several Indian athletes were in the limelight during the competition. High jumper Nishad Kumar and shooter Mona Agarwal were among the double gold medallists who represented India’s success at the Games.

Para-archery too had a memorable moment when Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar won gold in Para Compound Mixed Team event. Their win was one of those performances which PM Modi congratulated. He also praised athletes like Bhavina Patel and Shubham Wadhwa after they won bronze in Mixed Doubles Class XD7 para table tennis India’s first ever medal in that category at Asian Para Games.

Modi had earlier congratulated the Indian contingent in public message: “It is an extraordinary feat India’s best ever performance at the Games with 114 medals.” Modi said the determination of the athletes made it happen and every member of the contingent played their role for the historic result. November 5 interaction will be another chance to acknowledge their efforts and celebrate their contribution to Indian sport.

Coaches, support staff and officials from the Paralympic Committee of India and Indian Olympic Association, representatives of National Sports Federations and officials from Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports will also be present.

Their presence will underscore the collective effort to prepare athletes for major international competitions. Behind every medal are years of preparation training, financial support medical assistance teams that help athletes perform at their best.

But the interaction is bigger than medal count. Recognition from country’s highest political leadership can raise public awareness of para-sports and inspire young people with disabilities to look at sporting opportunities; it can also focus attention on accessible sporting facilities, inclusive coaching programmes, better equipment and opportunities for athletes from smaller towns and rural areas. India’s record performance gives them an opportunity to build on what has been achieved in recent years and strengthen the pathway for future generations of para-athletes.

With 114 medals India has set a new target for itself for future international events. The November 5 meet will celebrate those athletes who made this happen and also show the country’s growing ambitions in para-sports.

For medal winners it would be an interaction where they can share their experiences and get recognition for hard work. For aspiring athletes and sports lovers it will be a reminder that determination, preparation and opportunity can take Indian sportspersons to extraordinary results on the international stage.
