T Dilip has been replaced as the India fielding coach after five years which has been a very successful five-year period of his career with the national side. Dilip, who had taken over the role in November 2021, wrote a touching and emotional farewell on Instagram in a post on Monday. India did not renew the contract for him after India's recent T20I tour to Zimbabwe. Subhadeep Ghosh has now come in as the new field coach and will go to Sri Lanka for the next tour to play with the team along with the team for the upcoming two-match series to begin on August 15.
Dilip said that as a result of this he had a real struggle to find the right language to describe a tenure that meant a lot to him, personally and professionally. When he first entered the national team, he had a simple and demanding goal: to give his best every day. Displaying good field performance had always been his primary means of getting involved in the sport he loves so much and he is very proud to have been part of the team’s great history during that time.
The Iconic Fielding Medal and Biggest Milestone Triumphs. Dilip spoke about the popular fielding medal tradition at the end of games, a friendly, yet high-stakes culture which he felt was prevalent in the Indian camp and that it was widely followed in the world. Most notably as a result of high-stakes events like the 2023 Men's ODI World Cup, the initiative resonated with the team and the team had an excellent sense of camaraderie and high standards. Dilip said watching players’ genuine joy, smiles, and high value attached to the medal would be with him the rest of his life.
During his time, the Hyderabad-based coach was instrumental in various historic and championship victories in Indian cricket. He got two ICC Men's T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and two Asia Cups in 2023 and 2025. He was also proud to have been able to make it to the finals and finish as runners-up at the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2023, which are just a few of the many memorable moments on the global stage he had.
Dilip expressed his gratitude to the BCCI, Coaches, and Captains. He also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the trust in him and the opportunity of serving India as a cricket player and also expressed his gratitude to former Team Director Rahul Dravid and the current Head Coach Gautam Gambhir for the pleasure of working with both great leaders. He thanked Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer for all the work they have been doing for him as captains, which is the most honoring thing to do in the history of Indian Cricket.
Dilip thanked every single individual player, coach, and support staff who came to the dressing room with him and said that the memories that they had together will be kept forever. The team will always be proud to wear the India badge for five unforgettable years, so it is a journey to continue, he concluded.
