The Tamil television industry is grieving over the shocking and tragic death of actress Subashini, who was known as Shaashvi Bala, and popular for her work as the antagonist in the popular Sun TV serial Kayal. On Sunday night, April 5, 2026, she was found dead in her rented apartment in Iyyappanthangal in Chennai.
Early police reports say Subashini committed suicide during a video call with her husband Bibin Chandra, at the very end of which her husband was also in a very bad state of mind and in a fit of emotions, she hanged herself while she was on the video call. Her husband, who lives in Bengaluru, saw the horrific incident and immediately notified the apartment’s security personnel.
But by the time help arrived and the door was breached it was too late. She was rushed to Poonamallee Government Hospital, where she was declared dead. Bibin Chandra shared his grief and disbelief on Instagram and penned a heart-wrenching caption with a photo of the two from happier days:
“Why did you leave me?”
The post has gained thousands of comments from fans and colleagues who wished to express their sorrow. Just weeks prior, Subashini’s social media feed was evidence of their relationship: she thanked him for being her “forever person” and called him her “best friend and therapist” on Valentine’s Day.
The contrast between those loving tributes and the tragic end has made people question the hidden pressures of high-profile lives. Subashini and Bibin were married for one year, having tied the knot in April 2024. Because she died within seven years of marriage, there is now a mandatory Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) investigation to see whether there was any harassment or other domestic troubles.
In addition to Kayal, Subashini had been part of movies like Web and Ellaam Mela Irukuravan Paathuppan. Her co-workers have described her as an outstanding colleague and an incredible person who will be missed on set. The industry is mourning a talent lost too soon; what happened to those people who were in the industry.
