A political controversy has broken out in Tirupati after Jana Sena Party worker Rajesh Achari allegedly committed suicide over a dispute over allotting a corporator ticket. The incident reportedly took place on the night of October 29, 2026 when Achari was disappointed that he was not allotted an official party ticket to contest from the 47th division.
His family members rescued him (initial media reports) and talks of alleged rigging in candidate selection have begun. There is also growing dissatisfaction among party workers ahead of municipal elections.
Ticket Denial Sparks Distress Among Long-Time Jana Sena Worker
Rajesh Achari had filed his nomination to contest as corporator from Tirupati’s 47th division. He claimed that he was with Jana Sena Party for several years and worked to strengthen the party in city.
Achari was also reported to have said that he was one of the early party workers who set up a Jana Sena office in Tirupati. He said he had put in time, money and effort for the party including during the Assembly elections (2024).
But his hopes were dashed when he didn’t get the final confirmation that he needed to contest as party candidate.
₹50 Lakh Demand Allegation Against MLA Arani Srinivasulu
The controversy escalated when Achari and his wife allegedly accused Tirupati MLA Arani Srinivasulu of asking for Rs 50 lakh for the corporator ticket.
According to what they told the media Achari got a B-form but not an A form confirmation. He claimed that even after nomination and involvement of party he did not get ticket as money demand was met only after the allotment else where.
These allegations have not been independently verified. In the initial reports MLA Arani Srinivasulu was not confirmed or responded to in detail by any official.
Family Members Rescue Achari
His family members reportedly saved him after the incident and he was emotional while giving his statement after the incident. He had expressed his frustration and disappointment over the ticket allocation process in his statements after the incident.
His wife also reportedly said the family had made financial and personal sacrifices supporting the party.
The incident has brought to light the pressure political workers go through during election periods when expectations about party nominations are not met.

Pawan Kalyan's Hawaii Slippers Remark Resurfaces
While speaking to the media, Achari was said to have referred Jana Sena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s earlier statements that ordinary party workers should be given opportunities.
He recalled Pawan Kalyan’s statement that even a person wearing Hawaii slippers could be sent to Assembly if he had public support.
Referring emotionally to the statement Achari asked whether contesting elections had become a question of money rather than party loyalty and public service.
He also asked party leadership to pay attention to his situation.
Political Controversy Ahead of Tirupati Civic Elections
The incident has put Jana Sena’s candidate selection process under scanner in Tirupati. Differences over ticket distribution and allegations of favouritism can lead to tensions among local party workers during municipal elections.
