Astrology is something that people have used to try to figure out what is going on with beings and things that happen on earth. They do this by looking at the stars and other things in the sky. Astrology is not considered to be science. People have been doing astrology for a long time at least since the 2nd millennium before Christ.
Different cultures have their ways of doing astrology. Some cultures, like the Hindus and the Chinese have complicated systems for trying to predict what will happen on earth by looking at the stars.
Western astrology is one of the kinds of astrology that people still use today. It started in a place called Mesopotamia a time ago and then it spread to other places like Greece and Rome.
Nowadays a lot of people who do astrology use something called horoscopes to try to explain why people are the way they're and to predict what will happen to them.. Not everyone believes in astrology.
There have always been people who do not think astrology is real or useful. Before the time of the Enlightenment astrology was considered to be an area of study and a lot of smart people believed in it. Astrology was even used by some writers, like William Shakespeare.
Then people started to use something called the scientific method and they realized that astrology is not real. They did experiments. Found out that astrology does not really work.
So astrology is not considered to be an area of study anymore and not as many people believe in it.. Some people still like to use astrology and it has become popular again in recent years. Astrology is still something that people talk about and use today even though it is not considered to be science.
