All newly launched by KTM India in the mid-capacity motorcycle ranges include all new models KTM 350 Duke and New KTM 350 Adventure. These models must be affordable yet have high-performance performances and an aura of affordability, segmented as cheaper versions of the high-end 390 series. Starting at a price of ₹2.77 lakh (ex-showroom), KTM has no doubt its market is very much for the segment of people who value performance at a budget but the price-sensitive segment but is willing to pay competitive rates.
The grandest difference among the new models is a 350cc engine replacing the 399cc's of the 390 Duke and 390 Adventure. The move will help KTM cut GST rates which are applicable to sub-350cc bikes in India and ensure a lower pricing for customers.
As the engine capacity drops, KTM has made sure performance is not boring. The 350cc engine puts in roughly 41 horsepower and 33.5 Nm of torque. And while those figures are a tad lower than the 390’s overall target of approximately 44 hp and 39 Nm, the riding experience overall is looking assured thanks to KTM's proven tuning and engineering philosophy. Significantly, the 350 variants are not designed on a new platform.
KTM has also retained much of the same equipment - including the 390 series - which it hopes will prevent riders from being unhappy. The motorcycles remain on the same chassis, upside down front forks, rear monoshock suspension, disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. The latest TFT display keeps the tech new to lure younger, tech-savvy commuters. 350 Duke and 350 Adventure are similar to 390 in design. Even the brutal design, the bold bodywork, and the signature KTM aesthetic are the same, and we can’t easily tease the two ranges visually. In a market with price dictating purchase intent in India, pushing the buttons is savvy of KTM.
But now, with nearly identical features and appearance below the budget market price, the group is introducing a new kind of competitive class for high riders. In general, the KTM 350 Duke and 350 Adventure provide a balanced design of performance, function and pocket-sized products to end users. In so doing they could well change the 300-400cc level, selling premium parts without the price range offered for the 390.
