JSW MG Motor India has launched the new Hector Tomahawk EV as a new three-row electric SUV addition to its line of electric vehicles. The new model is available in India at a price of Rs 19.49 lakh for the full price of purchase from showroom or even BaaS for the same but MG will also provide Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option to take the initial price down to Rs 13.99 lakh excluding battery rental.
With a claimed range of 517 kilometres, five- and seven-seat configurations and a long list of technology and safety features, we think the Hector Tomahawk EV is for families for an all-round family electric SUV.
There are five things that set the new MG Hector Tomahawk EV apart in India’s growing electric SUV market.
1. A claimed range of 517km
One of the biggest features of Hector Tomahawk EV is its claimed driving range. The SUV has a 69.2kWh LFP battery pack and MG claims a range up to 517km on a single charge according to India’s testing cycle. The big battery is meant to be a perfect fit not only to keep the SUV in the city but also for long trips.
The actual range experienced by owners will vary depending on driving style, traffic, road conditions, temperature, passenger load and use of the air-conditioning system. But the claimed figure provides the Tomahawk EV with a strong starting point for buyers who are worried about frequent charging.
2. Five- and Seven-Seat Options
Hector Tomahawk EV isn’t just an electric crossover in the conventional sense. It is available in five- and seven-seat versions so customers have more flexibility. The seven-seat version has three rows so the SUV is very much of a bigger family vehicle.
The five-seat configuration is in the high-end Essence trim and the seven-seat version is available in several variants. MG is targeting customers with different space and equipment requirements.
The SUV is 4,745mm long and has a 2,810mm wheelbase, making it a large road presence and the basis for its spacious cabin.
3. MG's New ADAPT Platform
Another important highlight is the architecture underneath the vehicle. The Hector Tomahawk EV is the first MG model in India based on the company's Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology, or ADAPT.
The platform is built as a multi-new energy vehicle architecture so MG is able to use it for different electrified powertrains. The Hector Tomahawk range itself shows this strategy, with both an EV and a plug-in hybrid version available.
For the EV, the platform is integrated with the big battery pack and electric powertrain, while the broader architecture is meant to provide MG with flexibility as the company expands its electrified vehicle portfolio.
4. Technology-Rich Cabin
Technology is another major area where the Hector Tomahawk EV aims to make an impression. The SUV features a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display, MG's i-SMART connected-car technology and a range of connected features.
The interior also has new convenience tools that give the SUV a premium feel. At the SUV version, customers might expect a panoramic sunroof, a ventilated front seat, wireless charging and a multi-speaker audio system.
The large screen, connected technology and luxury cabin equipment that goes into the Tomahawk EV are so much more than a utility vehicle in the family. It is aimed at the buyers who are increasingly interested in digital features in their vehicles.
5. Strong Safety and Practicality Package
Safety is another key piece of the new electric SUV. The Hector Tomahawk EV has a 360-degree camera, multiple airbags and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems of different kinds depending on the variant. They are to assist drivers in situations where the car is going to be at its safest distance from the vehicle and to observe the vehicle's surroundings.
The SUV’s big size, multiple seating configurations, modern safety features and electric power makes it perfect for family use. Its design also has a closed-off front section, LED lighting features, 18-inch alloy wheels and prominent body cladding making it a very distinctive presence on the road.
Price and BaaS Option
The Hector Tomahawk EV is priced from Rs 19.49 lakh to Rs 23.49 lakh ex-showroom under the outright purchase model. The introductory price is limited to a few units. MG also provides a BaaS ownership option on the entry variant starting from Rs 13.99 lakh with a battery rental charge of Rs 4.90 per km.
The BaaS model is intended to reduce the initial purchase price by breaking down the battery cost into two independent payments from the car. This is another approach to buying an EV; customers should take the ongoing battery rental charges into account when their overall ownership is calculated.
In all, the MG Hector Tomahawk EV has a 517km claimed range, three-row practicality, a new EV-based architecture, state-of-the-art safety features and much more. With space and electric power, the new SUV is an important addition to India’s emerging family EV market. The electric version will go into production in September 2026.
