Nissan is to expand its affordable family car market with the introduction of the new Nissan Gravite 7-seater MPV. It is a practical option for a three-row vehicle with the price point for high-end customers under ₹5.65 lakh (at ex-showroom price). Nissan says it is a family MPV with easy seating, new technology and a high level of safety.
The Gravite has been made locally in Chennai as part of a new product strategy for the Indian market.
The Gravite has a striking exterior design to give the compact MPV a bigger road presence. Nissan has integrated its signature design elements such as a bold front profile, LED lighting and roof rails. It is under four metres long and shares the underlying platform with the Renault Triber, although Nissan has provided it with its own design and features.
It is a 7-seater, and the flexible cabin can fit passengers and luggage. The Gravite is available in Visia, Acenta, N-Connecta and Tekna with a limited Launch Edition also available.
The Nissan Gravite also has a number of features that enhance the convenience of everyday family use in the interior. Depending on the variant, the MPV gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, push-button start/stop and rear air-conditioning vents.
Nissan also has been very impressed in the model in its flexibility of seating for two to seven seats. The Launch Edition comes with JBL speakers, a dual dash camera, air purifier, ambient lighting and other comfort features for city driving and long family trips.
Under the bonnet, the Gravite uses a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. Nissan says 72PS at 6,250rpm and 96Nm at 3,400-3,600rpm torque. Transmission is 5-speed manual and 5-speed EZ-Shift AMT. The company says fuel efficiency is 19.3 km/l for the manual version, 19.6 km/l for the automatic version.
A dealer-fitted dual-cylinder CNG kit is also available for the Gravite, but the pricing and configuration depend on the applicable configuration. Therefore, buyers should not assume a 24 km/l figure for the standard petrol versions.
Safety is another important part of the Gravite package. Nissan says that the MPV is equipped with more than 30 standard safety features including six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, traction control, hill-start assist and brake assist. Depending on the variant, customers will also receive tyre-pressure monitoring and parking assistance, and also will have access to features like that.
A seven-seat setup and standard safety features are especially designed for families who are primarily concerned about passenger protection in the affordable MPV market.
The Nissan Gravite was launched with an introductory price of ₹5.65 lakh ex-showroom, of which the introductory range is around ₹8.93 lakh for the top version depending on the variant and transmission.
The car is mainly targeted at the affordable compact MPV market with Renault Triber being its main rival. With seven seats, a 1.0-litre petrol engine, manual and AMT options, six airbags and a number of modern features, the Gravite is aimed at Indian families looking for practicality at a relatively cheap price. Customers should check the latest variant-wise prices, CNG availability and on-road costs with Nissan dealers before purchasing it.
