Renault India has also launched a new turbo-petrol version of the Triber which is much better for a compact seven-seater MPV. The Renault Triber Turbo is available for Rs 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available for Rs 8.99 lakh in the top-tier. It is intended to give the Triber a performance boost but still remain a practical seven-seater.
The biggest change in the new Triber is under the bonnet. The MPV gets a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TCe turbo-petrol engine that produces around 100 PS and 180 Nm of peak torque. This is a dramatic jump from the naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 72 PS and 96 Nm. The turbo engine is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox at launch.
Renault claims a fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl for the Triber Turbo too. The extra torque is especially important for a seven-seater car as it can boost acceleration and drivability when the car is carrying multiple passengers or luggage. According to NDTV, the turbo version can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 10.8 seconds.
Renault Triber Turbo Price And Variants
The new turbo petrol engine is available in three versions: Evolution, Techno and Emotion. The entry-level Authentic version does not come with the turbo engine. The Evolution turbo variant is priced at Rs 7.84 lakh whereas Techno is priced at Rs 8.53 lakh. The range-topping Emotion version is priced at Rs 8.99 lakh and all prices are introductory and ex-showroom.
The turbo-petrol option is currently only a five-speed manual transmission. Renault has not launched the automatic gearbox with the turbo engine at this stage. The regular naturally aspirated Triber is still available with manual and AMT options, depending on the variant.
Performance And Mechanical Updates
Renault did not only change the engine for the new Triber Turbo. Its suspension tuning, anti-roll bars, braking system and electronic control systems are redesigned. The turbocharged powertrain has also been modified in terms of thermal management, which is for the additional power and for the engine and chassis to function correctly together.
The Triber Turbo is also the first Renault model in India to use the new Renault Group Entry Platform (RGEP) of the company. It’s a platform for powertrain and vehicle configurations that support Renault to tailor and revise the tuning and configuration of powertrain and chassis tuning and powertrain integration on this platform.
Features And Interior
In terms of design, the Triber Turbo largely retains the same Triber's appearance and cabin design. The new powertrain is the main focus rather than an all-over cosmetic upgrade in this update. A turbo-specific badge makes the new version a bit different from the regular.
The cabin continues to have a practical layout with flexible seating arrangements. Depending on the configuration, the Triber can accommodate five, six or seven occupants. It has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, a 7-inch digital driver display, a height-adjustable driver's seat with armrest and a wireless phone charger.
Safety Features
The Renault Triber Turbo comes with an extensive list of safety features. These features include six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, speed-alert warning and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
The previous generation Triber received a four-star Global NCAP safety rating, but the current turbo version should not be assumed to carry the same rating unless and until it is independently tested in its current specification.

The main attraction of the new Triber Turbo is that it has a compact footprint, flexible seats and a powerful engine. The standard naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 72 PS and the new turbo engine creates 100 PS and 180 Nm. That extra power might have a big impact during highway driving and when carrying a full load.
The Triber Turbo also enters the market at Rs 7.84 lakh and is still below larger seven-seat models like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens. However, the turbo version does not have an automatic transmission, which is a big deal for people who are primarily driving in very urban traffic.
The Renault Triber Turbo adds a more powerful engine to an already practical seven-seater package. With 100 PS, 180 Nm of torque, a claimed 21 kmpl efficiency and prices starting at Rs 7.84 lakh, the new version is another option in Renault's compact MPV line-up.
