Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Tata Aeris, an updated compact sedan that will replace the Tata Tigor in its lineup. The new sedan is expected to be launched on 25 September 2026, and Tata has already released a teaser showing an early glimpse of the new design.
The Aeris is essentially the successor to the Tigor but it's going to get a huge upgrade in terms of design and many features, to say nothing of the exterior appearance.
Tata Aeris is expected to continue to compete in India’s sub-four-metre sedan industry with models like Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze. The expected starting price is around ₹6 lakh but the final ex-showroom price will only be established when Tata officially launches the car.
Some automotive portals have published different estimated price ranges and so buyers should wait until the official announcement before taking them as final.
1. New Exterior Design
One of the major changes expected on the Aeris is its exterior. Much like the Tigor, the new sedan will have a thinner front fascia with updated LED headlamps and daytime running lights. LED fog lamps would also be available to distinguish the new model from the outgoing Tigor, the teaser shows.
At the rear, patent images suggest that the Aeris will get slimmer connected tail-lamps, a redesigned bootlid and a redesigned bumper. The sedan will also likely see updated alloy wheels and perhaps a new exterior colour.
2. More Modern Interior
Tata will also make changes to the cabin in real life. There are rumours that Aeris may feature elements of the recently updated Tiago (e.g., more modern dashboard layout and digital instrument cluster). A bigger infotainment screen is also expected, some reports suggest a 10.25-inch screen. Connectivity for wireless phones, a wireless charger and connected car may also be added to the equipment list.
These changes would bring the Aeris a more modern cabin than the Tigor and help Tata position the new sedan as a refreshed product rather than just a renamed model.
3. Petrol and CNG Powertrain Options
Mechanically the Tata Aeris is expected to retain the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine used in the Tigor. We hear there is a five-speed manual and AMT gearbox option that will be available as well. A factory-fitted CNG version will also be available at this time and Tata is still a very big fan of having multiple fuel options for the compact car lineup.
An electric version has also been mentioned in recent reports, but its availability and launch date should be treated as unconfirmed until Tata confirms it with official details.
4. Safety and Convenience Features
Safety and technology are going to not only be part of the Aeris’ attention to safety and technology. The new sedan could provide six airbags, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, rear parking sensors, hill-hold control and a tyre-pressure monitoring system could be among some of the features. But the full list of features and standard-vs.-optional equipment will only be revealed at launch.
More basic safety equipment would be added and make the Aeris more competitive in a space where customers are now looking for the most advanced safety and convenience features.
5. New Identity and Positioning
And the name might be the most important change of all. The Aeris is expected to replace the Tigor as Tata’s compact sedan, and be available for sale. The change is part of Tata’s product refresh, so the company will try and give the new sedan a different identity. Tata has already registered the Aeris name with the company and will launch the vehicle on September 25.
The current Tigor is priced at around ₹5.70 lakh, and the Aeris pricing varies according to source and variant. Some reports indicate starting price around ₹6 lakh, while others suggest a wider estimated range. Therefore, the final pricing comparison will only be possible once Tata announces the official variant-wise pricing.
Tata Aeris is a major update of the compact sedan sold as the Tigor in general. With new design and a new interior with a more modern design, new technology and familiar petrol and CNG powertrains, it will be in a competitive market. Details of its pricing and variant, features and specifications are expected to be announced by September 25.
