Tata Motors has expanded its Sierra SUV range with the new Tata Sierra Dark Edition, bringing the brand’s popular #DARK treatment to its premium mid-size SUV. The Sierra Dark has been launched at an introductory price of Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and the range goes up to Rs 21.59 lakh for the top-spec diesel automatic.
The new edition is more about fashion and design changes than mechanical upgrades. It has a Friesian Black exterior and darkened exterior elements and a special cabin with Violet Eclipse interior, black leather upholstery and purple chrome detail. The Dark treatment is available in six Sierra variants so customers can choose the blacked-out design across different equipment levels than only on the top-tier model.
Tata Sierra Dark Edition: Full Price List.
The Sierra Dark Edition is available in Pure L, Pure L (O), Pure+ L, Adventure+ L, Accomplished and Accomplished+ trims. It can be bought with petrol and diesel engine options depending on the choice of variant and transmission.
The Pure L Dark with the 1.5-litre Revotron petrol engine and manual gearbox is the entry point at Rs 13.99 lakh. The same trim with petrol DCA automatic is priced at Rs 15.29 lakh and diesel manual is Rs 15.44 lakh.
The Pure L (O) Dark is priced at Rs 14.59 lakh for petrol manual, Rs 15.89 lakh for petrol DCA, Rs 16.04 lakh for diesel manual and Rs 17.34 lakh for diesel automatic.
The Pure+ L Dark costs Rs 15.29 lakh for petrol manual, Rs 16.59 lakh for petrol DCA, Rs 16.74 lakh for diesel manual and Rs 18.04 lakh for diesel automatic.
The Adventure+ L Dark price starts at Rs 17.29 lakh for the petrol manual. The diesel manual is priced at Rs 18.49 lakh, while the petrol DCA and diesel automatic are priced at Rs 18.59 lakh and Rs 19.79 lakh, respectively. The 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol automatic is also available at Rs 19.29 lakh.
The Accomplished Dark is priced at Rs 18.29 lakh with petrol manual. The diesel manual is Rs 19.29 lakh while the diesel automatic and Hyperion turbo-petrol automatic are priced at Rs 20.29 lakh each.
At the top of the range, Accomplished+ Dark is available with diesel manual at Rs 20.59 lakh, diesel automatic at Rs 21.59 lakh and Hyperion turbo-petrol automatic at Rs 21.29 lakh. All prices are introductory ex-showroom prices.
Tata Sierra Dark: Engine And Gearbox Options.
The Sierra Dark does not have any mechanical changes to the SUV. It continues with the powertrain lineup of the Tata Sierra with 1.5-litre Revotron naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engines.
The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 106 PS and 145 Nm, while the Hyperion turbo-petrol develops 160 PS and 255 Nm. The Kryojet diesel produces 118 PS with torque output depending on the transmission. The engine options are paired with manual or automatic transmissions depending on the selected trim.
That is why Dark Edition buyers will pay more for the special design treatment than a performance upgrade. The equipment and features are generally the same as the standard Sierra variant on which the Dark package is based.
What is different in the Tata Sierra Dark Edition?
The biggest change is the exterior appearance. The Sierra Dark gets the Friesian Black paint finish with blacked-out exterior elements, dark chrome detailing and darkened alloy wheels. The SUV also has distinctive #DARK badging on the front fenders.
Tata has introduced the Violet Eclipse theme in the interior. The cabin has black leatherette upholstery with purple chrome accents on selected parts. Purple detailing is also used around the air vents and front console, as well as dark finishes are applied to some interior parts.
The equipment list will depend on the Sierra trim. Higher variants may thus have more premium features compared to entry-level versions. The highest-end Accomplished+ features include the triple-screen setup, Level 2+ ADAS, JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos, powered tailgate and connected car technology.
Tata Sierra Dark Edition Availability
The Dark treatment is available from the Pure L variant upwards and is available for six personas: Pure L, Pure L (O), Pure+ L, Adventure+ L, Accomplished and Accomplished+. The Smart+ L variant does not receive the Dark treatment.
Tata has also extended the Sierra's range to six variants with the launch of the Dark Edition and the recently launched Legend Series. The Sierra Dark itself has a variety of petrol and diesel combinations that allow customers to opt for the darker look without going to the most expensive trim.
The launch is also in the midst of the festive buying season which means that Tata Motors will have another Sierra configuration in place to give customers a good and different SUV. For a price starting around Rs 14 lakh ex-showroom and still having the same engine and features available, the Sierra Dark is much more attractive for Tata’s new SUV than the original one.
