The meeting also had a festive Diwali feel to it as beneficiaries presented Shivakumar with handmade gifts. The women brought small bags and decorative lamps made by them, which showed their creativity and skills.

Women Share Their Experiences with Gruha Lakshmi Scheme

The beneficiaries spoke to the Chief Minister about how the scheme changed their everyday lives. They said it had helped them meet household needs, pay for personal expenses, and contribute to family budgets.

Money in women’s hands can give them more flexibility to make financial decisions. Beneficiaries talked about how the assistance had helped their families and boosted their confidence.

Direct interactions with beneficiaries also allow public representatives to learn how government welfare programmes are experienced at household level.

The meeting put women’s voices and personal experiences at the centre of discussion (listening to those who benefit).

One of the features of the programme was the handmade gifts made by the women beneficiaries.

They brought handmade items like small bags, lamps and other decorative products made by their own creative efforts. Shivakumar praised their craftmanship, creativity and enthusiasm.

The handmade products also showed the skills and interests women are developing outside regular household tasks. These activities can open up opportunities for women to explore self-employment, small businesses and other income-generating activities.

The beneficiaries’ involvement showed how creativity and practical skills could be part of the journey towards greater financial independence.

Diwali Gifts and Lunch with Beneficiaries

As part of the Diwali celebrations, Shivakumar gifted gifts to Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries and had lunch with them.

The festive gathering was an informal opportunity for women to meet the Chief Minister and share their experiences with him. The celebrations also brought home the point that community participation was needed in government welfare programmes.

The interaction combined discussions about money with festive celebrations so beneficiaries could speak freely about their lives and aspirations.

Gruha Lakshmi Scheme and Women's Financial Independence

The Gruha Lakshmi scheme is one of Karnataka’s major welfare programmes for financial assistance to women heads of households. The programme is meant to strengthen women’s role in managing household finances and provide them with direct financial support.

Beneficiaries said the help had helped them meet household costs and personal needs. Regular financial support can also give women more say in family spending decisions.

But economic independence is not simply about money. Skill development, employment opportunities, market access, entrepreneurship support and financial awareness can all help women build sustainable sources of income too.

Experiences at the meeting showed how financial assistance could be immediately useful but also broader aspirations of women for greater self-reliance.

Senior Officials Attend the Interaction

Officials and representatives from the programme included H.M. Revanna (Chairman of the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee), Padmavathi (Chairperson, Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation), Tushar Giri Nath (Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister), Dr. Shamla Iqbal (Additional Chief Secretary, Women and Child Development Department) and Dr. Mahesh Babu (Director of the department).

The interaction allowed beneficiaries to talk about the impact of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, their financial experiences and aspirations.

The programme’s message was women’s economic participation and confidence. Personal stories and handmade items showed how financial support, creativity and opportunities can be used to work towards a more independent future.
