Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which was directed by David Dhawan and stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, released on 5 June 2026. It’s a movie with romance, comedy and chaos and reviews are mixed with Varun’s passion but the writing and humor is weak.
Story Overview
The film follows Jass (Varun Dhawan), a happy wedding photographer who is in a conflict with Bani (Mrunal Thakur) whose marriage is marred by conflicting interests. Jass wants to start a family but Bani is interested in her career. Jass learns to meet Preet (Pooja Hegde) as they break up and she gets a second love relationship in the process. The scenario gets chaotic when both women come to know that they are pregnant; confusion, mistaken identities and farcical situations arise.
What’s Good
Varun Dhawan’s performance: Energetic and engaging, keeping the film afloat despite uneven writing.
The supporting cast: The comedy: Mouni Roy, Rajpal Yadav and Johnny Lever come out for comic relief.
Second half: Everything is fast and light as a joke and chaos.
Classic David Dhawan flavor: Nostalgic throwback to his 90s comedies, appealing to fans of loud, colorful farce.
What’s Bad
Weak screenplay: Many jokes fail because the jokes are too noisy and not funny.
Inconsistent humor: Even when comedy is being marketed as a joke, punchlines often don’t come out right.
Predictable chaos: The formula is repetitive, and little innovation is left other than nostalgia.
Music disappointment: For a Tips film, the soundtrack fails to leave a lasting impact.
User Reaction
Mixed audience reaction: Varun had good comic timing and the madcap chaos but the writing was poor.
Nostalgia factor: Older audiences familiar with David Dhawan’s classics found the film entertaining, while younger viewers thought it was outdated. Most reviews are around 2.5–3 stars out of 5, and it is an average entertainer.
Verdict
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is a chaotic rom-com that delivers laughs in parts but struggles with weak writing and inconsistent humor. It works well for David Dhawan’s familiar style but may be dated for a new audience looking for comedy.
