Karnataka has reaffirmed its position as a major economic powerhouse in India, according to the latest data released in the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Handbook of Statistics on Indian States (2024-25). The state has secured the fourth position nationally in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and has clinched the number one spot for Per Capita Income.
GSDP Ranking: Karnataka is Fourth Largest Economy
For the financial year 2024-25, Karnataka’s GSDP is projected to be a massive ₹28.83 lakh crore.
The top five states ranked by GSDP for 2024-25 are:
- Maharashtra: ₹45.31 lakh crore
- Tamil Nadu: ₹31.18 lakh crore
- Uttar Pradesh: ₹29.78 lakh crore
- Karnataka: ₹28.83 lakh crore

Karnataka Leads the Nation in Per Capita Income
In a significant achievement highlighting the prosperity of its residents, Karnataka has been ranked Number One in the country for Per Capita Income.
In 2024-25, the Per Capita Income for the people of Karnataka is estimated at ₹3,80,906. This places the state ahead of others, with Tamil Nadu following in the subsequent position at ₹3,61,619.
GSDP Growth Rate: Fourth in the Country
Karnataka also maintains a strong presence in terms of economic dynamism, securing the fourth position in the nation for the GSDP Growth Rate.
The state’s GSDP Growth Rate for 2024-25 is an impressive 12.8%. This places it favorably against states like:
- Tamil Nadu: 16.0% (Securing the top spot for growth rate)
- Uttar Pradesh: 12.7%
