Bharti Airtel has introduced a new range of postpaid plans with free international roaming and customers are provided with a free overseas roaming trip every year. The new plans are available in the range of Rs 499 per month and will be available for customers from October 8, 2026.
The telecom operator said the new plans combine international roaming with unlimited domestic data and calling, spam and fraud protection, entertainment subscriptions and other benefits.
The free roaming benefit is available once every year for each eligible SIM. You will be able to decide when the roaming pack is activated during your international trip.
Airtel Free International Roaming: What Do You Get?
The international roaming pack provides 5GB of data, 60 minutes of voice calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS.
These benefits are valid for five days. Airtel has said that customers can activate the five-day pack at the time of their choice, rather than having the validity begin automatically when they sign up for the postpaid plan.
The benefit is also available separately to members of Airtel family postpaid plans. This means each SIM included in an eligible family plan gets one complimentary international roaming trip every year.
So the free roaming offer is aimed particularly at customers who travel abroad occasionally and do not want to purchase a separate international roaming pack for every trip.
Airtel Postpaid plans starting at Rs 499
Airtel's new postpaid portfolio starts with the Rs 499 individual plan. It features unlimited data and calling, spam and fraud prevention, Xstream Play Premium and Google One, in addition to a free international roaming trip per year.
The family plans start at Rs 749 and go up to Rs 1,799. The Rs 749 plan supports two SIMs, while the Rs 1,049 plan supports three SIMs. Airtel also has Rs 1,249 and Rs 1,449 plans for four SIMs, and a Rs 1,799 plan for up to five SIMs.
The higher-priced plans add more entertainment and cloud services. Depending on the plan, customers can get subscriptions like Amazon Prime, JioHotstar, Apple Music, Apple iCloud+, Netflix, Xstream Play Premium and Google One.
All six plans come with one free international roaming trip per SIM every year.
When will the new Airtel plans be available?
These new plans will be implemented from October 8, 2026.
Existing Airtel customers on prepaid and older postpaid plans can upgrade to these new plans through the Airtel app or by visiting an Airtel store. Users using other telecom operators can also switch to Airtel Postpaid through the app or at an Airtel store.
Airtel also included its Fast Lane technology on 5G and spam and fraud protection in the new postpaid offering. The company is positioning the plans as an all-in-one package combining domestic connectivity, entertainment, digital services and international roaming.
What Travellers Should Know
While the free roaming benefit can reduce the cost of short international trips, customers should keep the limits in mind. The complimentary pack offers 5GB of data and 60 minutes of calls for five days, so heavy data users or people taking longer trips may need additional roaming benefits.
Airtel's existing international roaming terms also state that roaming service and roaming packs are separate, and usage outside of an applicable pack can attract standard charges. Hence customers should check the applicable roaming conditions and destination coverage before traveling.
The new offer is available for one international trip per year per SIM, rather than unlimited free international roaming throughout the year.
For occasional international travellers, however, the benefit could provide a convenient way to stay connected without having to buy a roaming pack for a short trip. The key things to remember are five days validity, 5GB data, 60 minutes of calls, 25 outgoing SMS and free incoming SMS.
