Nainar Nagenthran Hits Back at Minister, Rejects BJP-AIADMK Plot to Topple Vijay's TVK Government

Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran has denied that AIADMK and BJP are conspiring against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay saying that such allegations are being made in the state to divert political attention from attempts to lure ruling party legislators with money. Political tension is mounting in the state over allegations of inducements offered to ruling party MLAs.

The controversy has escalated after Tamil Nadu Minister R. Nirmalkumar reportedly said leaders of AIADMK and BJP were approaching TVK legislators to bring down the government.

Nagenthran rejected the allegations and denied that BJP was involved in any conspiracy against Vijay-led administration. The BJP leader’s response comes at a time when political temperature in Tamil Nadu is rising with rival parties accusing each other of destabilising government.

The allegations have put the AIADMK and BJP under political attack, particularly over claims legislators were being offered money to vote against the government in a no-confidence motion.

Political controversy over alleged horse-trading

The controversy gathered momentum after TVK MLA Mustafa alleged that he was offered Rs 30 crore to vote against the government in a no-confidence motion proposed by the Congress. He said he had received Rs 15 crore upfront and another Rs 15 crore after voting against the government.

Mustafa also alleged that a senior AIADMK functionary from Madurai had approached him in connection with the proposed deal. He said he had told TVK leadership about the approach.

The MLA said opposition parties were destabilising the government through financial inducements instead of politically challenging it and TVK legislators would remain loyal to Chief Minister Vijay.

These claims have led to a political showdown as the ruling party and opposition leaders present different versions of what happened.

Minister's allegations add to tensions

Minister R. Nirmalkumar further added to the controversy when he reportedly said leaders from AIADMK and BJP were trying to persuade TVK legislators to switch sides or vote against the government.

The minister’s comments have been denied by opposition parties. AIADMK and BJP both denied involvement in destabilising government.

The issue has also put the question of political defections and money used to sway legislators on the agenda. Allegations like that are particularly relevant in a politically charged situation where government legislative strength is being questioned.

Tamil Nadu political battle intensifies

The latest spat shows how the TVK government is facing confrontation from opposition parties in Tamil Nadu. Vijay’s administration has been under political pressure ever since it came to power and opposition leaders have questioned several aspects of its functioning too.

For the BJP, Nagenthran’s denial of conspiracy charge is an attempt to counter allegations that his party was behind attempts to weaken the ruling government. AIADMK has also denied any role in the alleged political operation.

Whether the allegations lead to a formal probe or political action is yet to be seen but for now the controversy has given another dimension to Tamil Nadu politics accusations, counter claims and denials continue between ruling party and opposition.

The coming days will be important as the parties respond to the allegations and debate over the stability of TVK government continues.
