Details have emerged about the death of actor RJ Mitte who played Walter White Jr. in Breaking Bad. An official inquest report obtained by Page Six says he died by suicide hanging at his home in Brownsville, Texas.
Mitte (34) died on October 12, 2026. According to inquest documents he was pronounced dead at about 1:32 pm local time that day. The newly reported findings provide additional information about what had been confirmed by his representative as suicide.
The documents reportedly state that an autopsy and toxicology tests were requested but the results of those tests weren’t in the records Page Six received.
The actor’s death had stunned fans and members of the entertainment industry when it was announced in October. His representative confirmed his passing in a statement saying he was “a beloved actor, philanthropist & disability rights activist.”
RJ Mitte's Journey Through Breaking Bad
RJ Mitte became known for playing Walter 'Flynn' White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston's Walter White in AMC's critically acclaimed crime drama Breaking Bad.
The series ran from 2008 to 2013 and told the story of how a high school chemistry teacher turned into a drug manufacturer. Mitte appeared in all five seasons and became an important part of the show’s central family storyline.
One of the things that made his performance so powerful was how real it felt. Mitte had cerebral palsy as a child too (just like the character he played on TV). His performance made people with disabilities more visible and challenged stereotypes about them being represented in entertainment.
After Breaking Bad, Mitte had several other television projects and films (Switched at Birth, The Guardians of Justice), as well as behind the scenes work as producer on independent film projects.
Bryan Cranston and Co-Stars Remember the Actor
When Mitte died his former co-stars paid emotional tributes.
Bryan Cranston (who played his TV dad in Breaking Bad) was devastated by the news. Cranston told reporters that he met Mitte when he was 14 years old and watched him develop into an actor while working on the show.
Cranston also spoke of Mitte’s determination and how he worked despite having cerebral palsy. He said they had messaged each other just weeks before his death and had talked about meeting for lunch.
Aaron Paul and Dean Norris also mourned Mitte as a friend and a beloved member of the cast.
A Legacy Beyond Television
Outside acting, Mitte was involved in disability awareness and charity work. He was an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's and pushed for greater inclusion and representation of people with disabilities.
He also was president of the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation which supported philanthropic and community projects.
His work went beyond the television show so he was a powerful voice for disability representation in the entertainment industry.
The inquest findings have brought the actor’s death back into focus. Fans remember his role on Breaking Bad but advocacy and charity work are part of his legacy too.
