Flipkart has announced that it will generate more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities in India for the 2026 festive season. The e-commerce company was making the announcement on September 15, 2026 as it gears up for the festive shopping and Big Billion Days.
A key feature of this year’s hiring is that nearly 75,000 opportunities are for people entering the workforce for the first time. And this represents about 30% of the whole employment opportunities and offers an entry point into the country's digital-commerce and supply-chain ecosystem and workforce for work in general, Flipkart says.
60% of new opportunities in Last-Mile Delivery
Last-mile delivery is likely to account for the largest share of the new opportunities. Flipkart said around 60% of its 1.4 lakh positions are going to be on last-mile operations.
More than 900 festive delivery hubs will be added to a network of 900 festive delivery hubs to prepare the company for the expected shopping surge. The expansion is particular in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, where online commerce is growing significantly as well, and that is where we see demand in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities is growing.
The opportunities can be found in all parts of the supply chain including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, warehousing and delivery operations.
Opportunities Across 7,000+ Facilities
Flipkart said the employment opportunities will span more than 7,000 Ekart facilities across India. These include fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery locations.
The expansion is also related to the company’s quick-commerce business Flipkart Minutes. Increasing demand for faster deliveries has led to an increase in the number of workers and infrastructure.
Women and Persons with Disabilities included.
In addition, the company highlighted its emphasis on workforce inclusion. Women are now about 20% of Flipkart's supply-chain workforce and participation of people with disabilities is increasing across warehouse and delivery operations.
Flipkart said its Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA) has provided nearly 10,000 certifications ahead of the festive season. This programme is jointly funded by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, NCVET and ITI Kalyani.
Why Festive Hiring Matters
The festive shopping season in India typically sees a huge increase in e-commerce activity. For Flipkart, this type of demand means more logistics, warehousing and last-mile delivery personnel are required.
The recent hiring announcement is therefore not only in line with the company’s strategy to handle higher order volumes but the wider employment ecosystem related to digital commerce.
For first-time workers, the company says these opportunities can provide an entry point into supply-chain and commerce-related roles. The actual nature and duration of individual employment, particularly for gig and seasonal positions, may vary by role and employer arrangement.
