Karnataka government has announced a big recruitment drive to fill up to 15,000 teacher vacancies in government schools across the state. Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa says the online application process will begin on August 18, 2026, and teaching aspirants can apply for all positions in government schools in the state.
By doing so, the recruitment drive will alleviate the teacher shortages in government schools and create new job opportunities for qualified candidates. The total 15,000 vacancies are divided between the Kalyana Karnataka region and the RPC category. There are 6,967 vacancies to be filled in Kalyana Karnataka and 8,033 posts in RPC.
The recruitment is likely to include positions in government schools, including Graduate Primary School Teachers (GPTs), Computer Science Teachers, Physical Education Teachers, and High School Assistant Teachers, among others. Physical Education Teacher vacancies also include Grade-I and Grade-II positions, providing opportunities for candidates with different qualifications and specializations.
District-Wise Notifications To Be Issued
One of the key features of the recruitment process is that notifications will be issued separately based on vacancies in individual educational districts. Candidates will therefore need to be sure of the notification applicable to their district before submitting an application.

Eligibility, educational qualifications, age limits, reservation rules, application fees, important dates, and selection procedures should be confirmed against the relevant official notification.

Recruitment Process Had Faced Delays
The announcement comes after years of uncertainty over the recruitment of teachers in Karnataka. Bangarappa said the process has been delayed because of several reasons, including the implementation of ‘internal reservation’ and court stay orders.
The government had also been mulling changes to the teacher recruitment process as part of wider efforts to reform the school education system. The delays had led to repeated questions from teaching aspirants about when fresh recruitment would begin and when vacancies in government schools would be filled.
