In the green valleys of the Western Ghats, Kamandala Ganapati Temple is a beautiful and spiritually fulfilling site near Koppa in Karnataka. One of the few places where people in the Sahyadri Hills can come to hear and see the Temple’s worship and the source of Brahmi River so far from their feet in all kinds of temples and places of worship so far to come and hear and know about Ganesha’s water flows through the holy temples, like the temple itself.
History
The origins of Kamandala Ganapati temple are rooted in ancient Indian beliefs and local mythology. According to legend the saints and sages had previously meditated there or was there on that peaceful spot like this world as a place where he came and purified and protected its people. And so on it developed a temple, at the first place where water started to flow naturally under the idol's feet, becoming known as Brahmi River in the eyes of people.
While Kamandala Ganapati is not well received as many larger temples in India are, it is the one that seems larger and more important to the local community. And over generations the temple has been maintained and given the spiritual heritage to other people.
Significance
The beauty aspect of this temple is that the Brahmi River is created directly from the feet of Lord Ganesha. It’s a place of great religious importance. pilgrims are coming there to celebrate, pray, rest and search for knowledge. The holy water flowing around the temple is one of the ancient water, holy and also healing.
The temple (not just a symbol of spirituality) is also in harmony with nature. With the dense forests, lush hills and fresh mountain air, it is perfect to be away from the chaos of daily life. Meditation and prayer go well within the stillness of the place perfect for spiritual seekers.
We celebrate festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi with dedication. Visiting those nearby towns and villages is a constant habit. As a temple grows in popularity the temple remains untouched to me simple enough.
