In a shocking murder case, a woman and her alleged lover have been arrested by police in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh for the murder of her husband. The accused woman, identified as Urmila, was said to have been in cahoots with her lover, Sikandar, to kill her husband, Pramod and start a new life with him in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
The police suspect that the plot involved carefully planned moves to avoid CCTV cameras, the use of sleeping pills mixed with alcohol, and continuous communication through WhatsApp. Pramod’s body was found close to a tubewell in an agricultural field on October 18. His face reportedly bore multiple fractures and injuries, prompting the police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to the information available, Pramod had left home to watch a Ramlila performance. But he did not return, and his body was found near a well in the field. The discovery led to a murder investigation in which police began to trace the cause of his disappearance and the people who might have had information about his movements.
Urmila and Sikandar were suspected to be involved as investigators continued to investigate, according to the report. Sikandar, who worked as a mechanic, had rented a shop belonging to Pramod. This connection between the two men was one of the features that was discussed in the investigation. Police questioned the suspects to gain information on the events that led to Pramod's death.
The investigation found that Urmila and Sikandar had been in a relationship and had secretly met in hotels. And, as the police report said, their relationship continued even after Urmila’s son learned about it. Sikandar stopped going to the family home, but the two remained in touch over the phone.
The couple’s relationship and their purported intention to live together, which is believed to be the reason for the murder conspiracy, is believed to have led Urmila to confess to having done it and told investigators she wanted to move to Dehradun with Sikandar to start a new life. Police are now investigating the alleged planning and what happened after that, to determine the roles of both accused persons, the police said.
According to police reports, Urmila called Sikandar to her house on October 18 and gave him two sleeping pills, instructing him to mix them with Pramod’s alcohol. Sikandar followed the orders and took Pramod a quarter bottle of liquor and took him towards the agricultural field. As they approached the tubewell, Sikandar mixed the sleeping medication with the alcohol and gave it to Pramod.
The investigators suspect the drugged alcohol was intended to make the victim drowsy and unable to fight back. The sequence of events is key to the case, but the exact medical findings and other forensic evidence would be needed to determine the facts of the death.
The report also alleges that Sikandar attacked Pramod with the liquor bottle while he was under the influence of alcohol and killed him. Sikandar went to watch a Ramlila performance after the attack and appeared to be trying to act like he had no role in it, it said. Investigators are now looking at the alleged communication between the two accused around the time of the murder.
Urmila wanted Sikandar to keep her updated on the attack through WhatsApp, the report said. Digital communications could be useful for the investigation as this could help establish the sequence of events, how they were planned, and the role of the suspects.
Urmila and Sikandar were arrested for the murder of Pramod, according to the police. The alleged plan to avoid CCTV cameras and leave for Dehradun after the killing is being investigated as well. All the evidence, including digital evidence, witness accounts, forensic findings, and other material, will help investigators uncover what actually happened and establish responsibility in court. The arrests are a major step in the investigation, but the allegations have to be tested through the legal process.
The Baghpat case has also attracted attention because of the level of planning for the alleged crime -- the use of sleeping pills, secret communications, and a plan to escape to another city. It is also an example of how digital evidence can be used in the context of modern criminal investigations.
WhatsApp conversations, call records, and other electronic data can be used to verify whether the story was indeed told in a way that has been verified by investigators. Details about the investigation and any subsequent legal process will clarify the evidence against the suspects. Both suspects are charged in a criminal case, and their guilt must be established through the judicial process.
