India reached 230/6 in 19.4 overs, winning with two balls to spare in a high-scoring game.

New Zealand Post 225/4 in 20 Overs

Out of 20 overs, New Zealand was 225/4 strong in attack in the first place. Glenn Phillips was the most impressive batsman with an impressive 82 off 40 balls, combining excellent hitting with good placement. Finn Allen also gave a good start, hitting 45 off 24 deliveries.

The hosts produced a good score throughout the innings and put India's batsmen under pressure before the chase even began.

India needed a confident start and an even finish to match the target on a ground where New Zealand had set themselves up for a competitive match.

Sanju Samson gets off to a great start

Sanju Samson gave India a perfect start with an explosive 67 from just 33 balls. He scored eight fours and four sixes and the New Zealand bowlers were put under severe pressure.

Abhishek Sharma supported him with 29 off 12 deliveries as the two had a quick 93-run opening partnership. Their attacking attitude ensured that India remained firmly in the contest during the first overs.

Although both openers had departed before the chase was over, their contribution provided the platform India needed to keep up with the required run rate.

Shreyas Iyer Holds the Middle Order Together

Shreyas Iyer played an important role in the middle overs, scoring 41 off 26 balls. His innings helped India keep the momentum going after the dismissals of the openers and prevented the required rate from climbing too sharply.

India lost wickets in the chase and needed another partnership to get the target within reach. Iyer’s contribution made the visitors competitive in a tense stage of the innings.

Axar Patel also contributed 24 off 14 balls to put himself through some runs before he was dismissed.

Naman Dhir produces a Brilliant Finish

Naman Dhir put in a match-winning performance in a tight match. He remained unbeaten on 42 off 15 balls with his attacks at the top speed and boundaries at the end of the match when India needed them most.

His fearless hitting turned the final stages of the chase and India crossed the finish line at 230/6 in 19.4 overs.

Naman’s finishing was the deciding factor in a match where New Zealand had posted a formidable total. His innings also ensured that the contributions of Samson and Iyer translated into a memorable team victory.

India Lead the Early Series

The four-wicket win gives India a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. Samson's explosive opening, Iyer's steady middle-order innings and Naman's powerful finish showed the depth of India's batting line-up.

India will continue to build on this momentum in the next match while New Zealand will try to make better use of their great total and find ways to contain India's aggressive batters.

For India, this was a thrilling start to the series and a spectacular finish from Naman Dhir.
