In a touching video that was posted on X on Friday, Lawrence said his mother, who had long been reluctant to think about his political career, was convinced after watching actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) victory in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
Lawrence reminded us of superstar Rajinikanth who had previously announced his political career, but subsequently withdrew due to health reasons. He also said politics should be about public service not personal gain, and he asked his followers to guide him with honesty. “If you say ‘No,’ I will continue my philanthropic work. If you say ‘Yes,’ I will reveal my plans and allies,” he said, showing that his answer is about public sentiment.
The video quickly caught on and thousands of responses poured in. Many fans endorsed his entry into politics and wanted him to be associated with TVK and especially in view of the upcoming Trichy East bypoll. Lawrence’s charity work and his grassroots background would strengthen TVK’s own prospects for reaching voters.
