Rakesh Bedi has categorically denied that the script of Dhurandhar: The Revenge was written by the PMO. The allegations only came to light after the movie became a huge box office hit and the movie’s layered plot impressed audiences. He also claimed that as a result of creative collaboration, not political influence, the film was written and produced.
The speculation was a byproduct of the movie's strong reception, Bedi said. The emotion of Dhurandhar: The Revenge’s story, and the subtlety of its screenplay, made some external people say it was more than just a story. “These rumours only came up after the movie's success,” he said, dismissing them.
The actor also shared his experience with director Aditya Dhar. He said the character of Jameel Jamali developed in the script was very serious but the comic elements were added so that he would be able to get more reaction from the audience from a more humorous side. Dhar initially didn’t like these kinds of improvisations but then relented, because of how the audience responded. Jamali’s humor was very much a part of the movie and it was very much appreciated by those who watched it as well as critics.
Bedi’s comments illustrate the work of filmmakers as “collaborators,” with actors giving creative contributions to enhance their roles. His improvisations added depth to the character and the film itself became more appealing, in a way that it is a little bit of drama and some lightness.
Bedi dismissed PMO-script rumours as only the result of the film’s massive success rather than reality. He maintained that Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a good movie on its own merits, with good writing, great direction, and performances. The speculation is just a consequence of how much the film’s storytelling has had an impact on people’s minds and ideas beyond the cinema halls, he said.
