Yash's biggest hit has once again not been intact but is now officially being postponed with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. That release date was on, before the movie would not last and, of course, at all; a new release date will have to be released soon.
Rumours spread a couple of months ago, with Yash himself now confirming he had booked a delay. While this announcement has frustrated fans who have eagerly waited for the movie, the producers made clear that it has been taken with a wider view in mind.
Why was the release postponed?
The main reason for the delay has been its response worldwide, particularly in terms of reception by audiences at CinemaCon. "Toxic," the makers said, has gained an unprecedented interest among international distributors, triggering a boom in demand for a broader global release. Yash said the team has no intention of narrowing the movie to a local viewer.
Rather, they would like it to have a larger international presence, which might have audience coverage across countries at the same time. To achieve this, there needs to be more time allotted to the planning of distribution strategies, arranging partners and synchronising the whole worldwide release.
Yash’s Statement
Yash talks about “Toxic”, explaining his thoughts there as a special journey. He also emphasises not only that there exists an important world-class role to deliver, but also that the emphasis was on making the film an experience that one would expect anywhere else in the world. The international reception at CinemaCon confirmed their desire for a wider release, he added, and his global audience there "was even more convinced that the film should be larger."
He added, to the latter part of his comment that the delay was not a misstep, he also said, but an opportunity to allow people on the front line to see the film in a bigger context. Yash said he was confident about the outcome that the film is a piece of work that will make the audience happy and make them all deserving to wait a while.
Star Cast and Production
The picture is directed by Geetu Mohandas, the star-studded cast includes Nayanthara, who has an incredible ensemble, and Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. The film has been filmed in Kannada and English in tandem, with dubbed versions planned in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam to be made with a full-length version later on. The production crew has finished shooting and is looking to post-production, international collaborations, and some other things, like global distribution and distribution arrangements.
Fans React to Delay
Fans responded with disappointment despite knowing the reasons, but they have since agreed that fans have already let the delay go as planned. Instagram, Twitter and Facebook have been inundated with comments that range from exasperation to cautious optimism. While some might mourn for the long wait, others have come to the conclusion that a global release could help get the film into high gear.
Looking Ahead
The delayed arrival is an indicator that Indian cinema as a whole is gradually changing from just being a region to something that extends its tentacles globally and doesn't just stop at the boundaries of one country's own borders anymore: "Toxic" is part of a world-building strategy with a new generation of international reputation that takes Indian cinema over Indian films and puts them in front of an often-invisible audience at its world.
Although the date of its new release has not yet been determined in advance, expectations are growing and even stoked. If they perform under their word, “Toxic” could be the biggest ever movie that anyone in India and global cinema wants now, with an enormous potential blockbuster status.
