According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West) Akanksha Yadav, the incident took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The police account praised Khushi for not losing courage and pursuing the suspects after the alleged snatching.

How the Incident Unfolded

According to the police statement given in the report, two men were fleeing after allegedly snatching Khushi’s phone. She pursued them on her scooter and rammed into their motorcycle.

The collision attracted people in the area to the suspects who were running towards the police. Local residents intervened and caught the two men before they were taken to the police.

The incident shows how bystanders may help law enforcement to respond to crimes. Residents’ intervention prevented the suspects from escaping before police were able to intervene.

Two Accused Identified by Police

The two accused were identified as Sameer, 19, and Mohit, 19, according to the police statement.

DCP Akanksha Yadav said that Sameer had been involved in a snatching case and had also faced a case under the Arms Act at Burari police station.

Police are looking into the incident and the alleged involvement of the accused in other cases. Any previous criminal involvement should be understood in the context of official police records and the status of the relevant cases.

DCP Akanksha Yadav Praises Khushi’s Courage

In her statement, DCP Akanksha Yadav said Khushi was pursuing the suspects even after the phone snatching. She also acknowledged the role of the public in catching the two men and handing them over to the police.

The incident has brought up the necessity of reporting street crimes promptly and cooperating with law enforcement. Community members can help police with information and help to find suspects if it is safe to do so.

Why Personal Safety Matters During a Snatching Incident

Phone snatching can happen suddenly and victims do not have much time to react. Even if Khushi’s response was to bring the suspects into police custody, chasing criminals can be dangerous, especially when they are armed or moving at high speed.

If someone does snatch something from someone, they should think of themselves first and immediately call the police or go about contacting nearby residents for assistance. A physical confrontation should be avoided to reduce the risk of injury.

The Shalimar Bagh incident serves as a reminder of the problems of street crime and how we as people must come together to intervene in the field. Delhi also needs more protection of the public places that people are exposed to.
