Delhi government has launched an online liquor booking service on a mobile application called Delhi Liquor Booking for consumers to buy beverages from selected retail outlets in the national capital.
This is a new strategy to the liquor business in Delhi from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) in which the government is looking for a better path for liquor buying to be a lot more convenient, shorter queues and billing process can be transparent at the same time. The new facility is only for advance booking and does not offer home delivery, officials said on Tuesday, October 27.
With the new system, customers can browse the list of available liquor brands, select a participating retail outlet, select the bottle size and quantity and pay online. If the booking is verified, the application generates a QR code that customers need to scan at the selected shop to collect their purchases.
The QR code can be scanned at the outlet to confirm the booking and complete collection. The facility is available only at liquor stores operated by DSIIDC, which operates 208 retail stores in Delhi. Customers who visit other liquor stores can’t use it unless those outlets are brought under the system in the future.
The government will simplify the buying process by allowing customers to select their products before they even go into the store and give them the opportunity to purchase that product before they go into the store and the time to pick it up as well. That will ease waiting times at payment counters, relieve pressure on payment counters, and make product prices and billing easier to understand for customers, they say. The customers will also be able to look for brands at the participating outlets before they order so they don’t have to go to the store and spend their time browsing.
How do I book liquor online in Delhi?
Consumers who wish to use the Delhi Liquor Booking application must first open the app and browse the brands available through participating DSIIDC-operated retail outlets. Once they select their beverage, they can select the shop, the bottle size and the quantity they want to purchase. They pay online and receive the booking confirmation along with the QR code.
When you go to the selected outlet, you should also have the QR code. At the store, the code will be scanned to verify that you made a booking before liquor is handed over. Since the booking is linked to a specific retail outlet, the customer needs to decide where they will be delivered before they pay. They should also check the availability of their favourite brands and bottle sizes before they pay.
The application now supports advance booking for whisky and beer, depending on the brands and stock available at the selected outlet. The exact selection may differ from store to store, so not every brand will necessarily be available at every participating shop.
Liquor Quantity Limits Under Excise Rules
The online booking facility operates within the excise regulations for buying liquor. A person may book a maximum of 9 litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer, and orders should be made in the allowed quantities and are in compliance with all excise regulations, the government said.
The quantity limits are particularly important for customers who want to purchase multiple bottles in a single transaction. The introduction of the online system does not mean that liquor purchases have been relaxed. The rules for retail purchases in Delhi remain the same for customers.
No Home Delivery; customers must visit the Store
One of the most important clarifications issued by officials is that the Delhi Liquor Booking app does not offer home delivery. In addition to reservations and payment online, customers will need to visit the selected DSIIDC-operated liquor store to collect their purchases. The QR code is the booking verification mechanism at the store.
The application also provides for cancellations and returns. Customers can cancel their online booking before it arrives, provided there is no cancellation condition in place. But liquor already purchased and taken out of the store can’t be returned. Consumers should make sure to check their choices before buying and take into account cancellation conditions when buying.
The difference between online booking and home delivery is important because the digital facility changes how customers reserve and pay for liquor, rather than how the products are physically distributed. Customers still need to travel to the outlet to receive their orders.
Will Delhi expand the Online Liquor Booking Facility?
Despite the launch, officials said early responses to the online liquor booking system were lukewarm. The government will see if the service is in good shape to expand, what kind of use it can deliver, and how to make it work better.
If this initiative is popular, it could create a more structured way for customers to choose and reserve products at participating shops. But greater availability would be dependent only on the decisions of the relevant authorities and any changes to the current system.
For the time being, Delhi consumers should know that this facility is limited to DSIIDC-operated liquor stores, requires in-person collection, and is subject to excise regulations. The launch is another step in the digitalisation of retail services in the capital, but its success will depend on convenience, reliable stock information, and customer response.
