Anxiety struck Athens as a gunman opened fire in two locations, officials say, in what they believe was a coordinated attack. Several people were killed in the brutal conditions, and a security enforcement strike in the Greek capital followed.
The attacker fired in a loud public block during the initial search, drawing scores of people who appeared outside in panic, the news release read. Gunfire also sounded from a separate location, the same few minutes later, prompting questions about whether those developments may have occurred in coordination or connection.
Both sites received emergency services soon after ambulances were able to transport injured men to nearby hospitals, the report said. Police quickly took over the devastated centres and started a citywide search for the suspect. Inside, it was a savage act as people scurried for their lives with sporadic gunfire.
Officials in Greece aren’t pinpointing motives for the attack, but say that they have actively pursued a terror angle. Police and analysts have been collecting various pieces of evidence, from surveillance footage and eyewitness testimony to forensic evidence, to resolve what occurred. It’s far too early to know why the attack has occurred, the senior police officer said, but there is also no evidence yet that a coordinated attack is currently underway, nor that it is likely ideologically motivated.
That included establishing counter-terrorism units to oversee the investigation. Police forces further occupied critical public spaces, including railway stations, major transportation arteries and tourist areas, and set up security forces. No publicised identity of the gunman himself alone or over a large extended network.
Authorities warn to maintain calm but look out for what might occur. To that end, there is no way to do it, and you must report this if you are worried. For another, this attack has raised renewed questions about public safety among metropolitan Europe's major cities.
Athens, a tourist spot and tourist destination of famous sights of historical importance and historic sites, does not regularly see this type of attack, and thus can be said to be a little scary. In good faith, government officials have informed many that all necessary steps to achieve regional peace are being taken, and those responsible must be brought to justice.
Once the data is confirmed, a formal statement is released again. To the best of our knowledge, however, only investigations have begun, until now, to identify the shootings as either crimes or the latest sub-project on the scale of a bigger, more insidious evil plan. The city now comes to terms with what it’s suffering, and the city remains in high alert.
