Love and determination led a Brazilian couple to place in the Guinness World Records when they set a record for the most kisses in 30 seconds by a pair.
Renato Alves and his girlfriend Naiara Roberta Ribeiro de Marins were able to kiss 195 times in 30 seconds, breaking the previous record, and cementing their status as the record holders in the history of kisses. It happened on International Kissing Day, which is celebrated on July 6, so it was a very special moment for the couple.
They said they had decided to take on the unusual challenge because of the genuine bond they have and the belief in the fact that they are the best couple in the world. The record is one more step in Renato's growing list of accomplishments but he also felt it had a great personal meaning as he shared it with Naiara.
For Renato, the attempt was much more than adding another Guinness title to his name.
He said he wanted Naiara’s name to be permanently recorded alongside his in the Guinness World Records, making the achievement a sign of their relationship as much as a sporting accomplishment.
In the official attempt, the 32-year-old wore his favourite football club's São José E.C. jersey, kissing Naiara’s cheek at the same time during the 30-second challenge. Naiara smiled during the attempt as the couple achieved the record-breaking performance.
Renato is already known in the Guinness World Records community for his passion for breaking unusual records. Over the years, he has won several world titles including the fastest time to set up and topple 10 books (6.68 seconds) and the largest foot rotation (male) at an eye-blowing 210.66 degrees.
Renato is a black belt in taekwondo and says he is so addicted to winning that his latest accomplishment makes him the Brazilian with the highest number of Guinness World Records titles.
But the couple has no intention of stopping here.
Their next goal is to break the record for the most kisses in one minute by a pair, which is already held by Japan's Cherry Yoshitake, commonly known as Mr Cherry, and Kumiko Shiratori, who managed 277 kisses in 60 seconds.
Renato thinks that he has done more than just collecting records; he is looking at the fact that something can be done for others and that we can talk out misconceptions.
He said he is a bone marrow donor and lives with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He wants to show that people with ADHD can be extraordinary.
"I am a bone marrow donor, and I have ADHD, and I want to prove that people with ADHD are able to do everything they want," Renato said.
He’s also hopeful that his growing list of Guinness World Records will encourage more people in Brazil to try new things and achieve new goals that they could not otherwise achieve if they tried hard.
Renato Alves and Naiara Roberta Ribeiro de Marins, with one global record already set and another close and in their sights, are demonstrating that teamwork, determination, and a little romance can make history—one kiss at a time.
